VERNON WARNER

     Vernon "Mike" Warner died on July 10, 2001, at his home in Glenwood.
     Mr. Warner was born to Ben and Sarah (Taylor) Warner on Feb. 8, 1916, at Alpha Creek near Walla Walla. He and his family came over Satus Pass in a wagon to work in the wheat fields of Goldendale. The family also lived in Liberty Bond, where he and his siblings attended school. Theirs was a musical family and they would play the violin, piano, guitar and harmonica at local dances. In June of 1935, Mr. Warner graduated from high school in Appleton. After that, he worked for Paul Kuhnhausen, SDS Lumber Co., and then J. Neils Lumber Co., as a timber faller. His nickname was "Iron Mike"; he may have been small, but he was strong and a good worker.
     Mr. Warner married Minnie Ward and they lived in Glenwood for several years before moving to Grandview. After their separation, he moved to Stabler, near Carson and began a career with the Forest Service. He married Georgia Leate and they lived in Stabler. She died in 1991.
     Mr. Warner liked to hunt some, fish some, but be loved to pick huckleberries and had many friends who liked to go berry picking with him.
     The past few years, he has lived in Glenwood, staying with his long-time friend and companion Wanee Kuhnhausen. He attended the Glenwood Baptist Church.
     He leaves behind friends in Stabler, Carson, Wind River and Glenwood. He was known for his kind ways and always wanted to help.
     Mr. Warner is survived by brothers Nate, Vancouver, George, Glenoma, Clifford, Camas, Richard, Johnson City. Ore., stepson Bob Frey; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by brothers Francis, Al, Claude and Donald, and sister Minnie.
     Services for Mr. Warner were held July 14, 2001, at the Glenwood Baptist Church in Glenwood. Vault interment was at Mt. Adams Cemetery.
     Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, in care of Gardner Funeral Home of White Salmon.

     His brothers, Francis, Al, Claude, and Donald, and a sister, Minnie, preceded him in death.
     Survivors include brothers, Nate and wife, Ruth, of Vancouver; George and wife Connie, of Glenoma; Clifford and wife, Roberta, of Camas; and Richard and wife Maxine, of Johnson City, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Edith Warner of BZ Corners, and Linda Warner, of Packwood; many nieces and nephews; and a step-son, Bob Frey.
     A funeral service was held July14 at the Glenwood Baptist church in Glenwood, with vault interment at the Mt. Adams Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, P.O. Box 36, Hood River, OR 97031 or in care of Gardner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 390, White Salmon, WA 98672.
