NICHOLS
Velva F. (Tootie Miller) Nichols of The Dalles, an early
settler in Centerville, passed away in The Dalles on August 5, 1985.
Nichols was born in Centerville on Aug. 25, 1909 to Joe
and Ethel Saxton Yeackel. She attended school there and was married to Tony
Miller on July 3, 1929. They lived and farmed in Centerville and in Moro,
Ore..
Tony passed away in 1972. She later married William Nichols.
Nichols is survived by her husband, William, of The Dalles;
two daughters, Mary Jo Lane of Rufus and Tonai Kirkelie of Vancouver, Wash.;
and one son, Gary Miller of Hermiston, Ore.. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday,
Aug. 8, at Knosher-Erdman Funeral Home with Mr. Harold Brown officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nate Newell, Glen Pock,
Curt Neal and Vernon Root.
Active pallbearers are Sam Kayser, Brent Palmer, Dave,
A.J. and Bruce Davenport and Brett Schuster.
Interment will be at the Centerville Cemetery.

VELVA F. (TOOTIE) M. NICHOLS
Velva F. (Tootie) Miller Nichols, 75, a resident of The
Dalles and a former resident of Centerville and Moro, died Monday at the
local hospital.
She was born Aug. 25, 1909 in Centerville to Joe and
Ethel Saxton Yeackel.
She attended schools in Centerville and the married Tony
Miller on July 3, 1929. They lived and farmed in Centerville and Moro before
he died in 1972. She later married Williams Nichols.
Survivors include her husband, William, The Dalles; two
daughters, Mary Jo Lane, Rufus, and Tonia Kirkelie, Vancouver, Wash.; a son,
Gary Miller, Hermiston; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at
