VELVA STOHLER
Velva June Stohler died at her home in Lyle on Feb. 14,
1997, at the age of 75.
Mrs. Stohler was born on June 3, 1922, in Caney, Kan.,
to Henry P. and Zuna M. (Powers) Price. She moved to Modesto, Calif., where
she married Elmore Atmore Stohler on July 3, 1955. She and her husband owned
their own produce business for over 20 years until his death in 1976. She
then spent time traveling and visiting relatives in Kansas and Oklahoma.
She moved to Lyle about 15 years ago.
She went to college for two years and got her food service
certificate and worked as a food service supervisor at the Hood River Care
Center for five years.
She loved crafts of all sorts, especially Indian crafts.
She had some items in local shops. She was a Christian lady and visited many
churches when she could.
Mrs. Stohler is survived by daughters Denice VanBuskirk,
Dallesport, Velva Berdion, Sonara, Calif., Margaret Stohler, Wamic, Ore.,
and Karen Nice, Lyle; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews; and a couple of swell sons-in-law.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stohler were held Feb. 18,
1998 at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with Rev. Les Haarstad
officiating. Interment followed at Lyle Balch Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home, White
Salmon.
