VIOLET WOOD
Violet May Wood, of White Salmon, died Jan.16, 1996 in
Lyle, at the age of 80.
Mrs. Wood was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Portland, Ore.,
to Mamie D. (Trotter) and Walter L. Speer. She moved to Portland from Bingen
at age 5. She married Joe Wood on June 6, 1944, in Trout Lake and they raised
their family there. She moved to Gresham in 1965 and lived there 17 years,
returning to White Salmon in1982 to retire.
Mrs. Wood was a past member of the Emblem Club and Eagles
Auxiliary. She loved gardening and canning. She was a loving mother and
wife.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Frederick "Joe"
Wood, White Salmon: daughter Barbara J. McConathy, Roy; sons Jerald F. Wood.
Trout Lake, and Garold C. Wood, Carson: brothers Lin Speer, White Salmon,
Robert Hawkins, Sumner, and Carl Hawkins, Salem; sisters Abbie Lee, Portland,
Goldie White, Pleasant View, Colo., Ethel McKenzie, Ukiah, Calif., and Eva
Walker, Kirkland; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Wood were held Jan. 30, 1996, at 11
a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Rev. Vern Kirstein
officiating. Interment was at White Salmon Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.
