STURGIS
Viola Sturgis of Goldendale, born Jan. 11, 1918 in Dufur
to Lester and Emma West, passed away Monday, Feb. 20.
She attended schools in Wapinita, Oregon before marrying
E.C. Sturgis in 1936. Later that year they moved to Centerville where they
owned the grocery store and also farmed.
In 1952 they moved to Goldendale, where they owned and
operated the Coast-to-Coast store, and where they later purchased Jack's
Grocery, a business they have operated since 1972.
Mrs. Sturgis was known as Grandma Aunt Viola by most
of the community's children, who were her greatest enjoyment.
She is survived in Goldendale by her husband, E.C; by
two daughters, Karen Ritter and Sharon Shattuck; by a sister, Beth Loftin,
and a brother, William West; and by four grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 at
11 a.m. in the chapel of Knosher-Erdman Funeral Home, the Rev. Arthur J.
Stott officiating.
Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery.
