WILLIAM KATT
William A. Katt, known locally for his love of working
with wood, died Thursday, Dec. 5, in White Salmon, at the age of 87.
Mr. Katt was born Dec. 26, 1897 to William and Martha
(Frederick) Katt in Solomon, Kan.
He grew up in Kansas, and married Mary Yenda in 1936.
The couple moved to Washington in 1937. Mr. Katt worked for Dickey Farms
(then owned by the Hearns), and later at the Hollenbeck Mill. He retired
in the 1960s.
Mr. Katt was fond of working with wood. He built all
his granddaughters' hope chests. He also liked other crafts and gardening.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bingen.
He is survived by his wife Mary, White Salmon; children
Robert Katt of Portland, Ore., Donna Carter of White Salmon, Gene Brown of
Spokane, and Loyd Brown of San Pablo, Calif.; brother Carl of Greenfield,
Kan.; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his daughter, Dixie Alston.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 9, at Gardner
Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Pastor Mike Wellman officiating. He was
cremated, and his ashes will be sent to his home state of Kansas. Arrangements
were made by Gardner Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church
or American Heart Association.
