WILLIAM BENNETT HAYDEN
In the passing of W.B. Hayden the community has suffered
the loss of one of its honored citizens. Coming to Centerville in 1888 where
he lived until his death, he became active in the affairs of the community,
seeking to build up the town, and giving his services to every worthwhile
enterprise. For a while he clerked in a store, taught school, finally going
into business for himself. For years he was in the merchandise business until
failing health compelled him to retire.
He was kind in disposition, ever ready to help of those
who needed help, often enduring hardship rather than cause others inconvenience.
He was married to Marium Caroline Griffin on March 26,
1874. Three children were born to this union, two of which passed away in
early childhood. One daughter survives to mourn his decease, Mrs. Linnie
Mulligan, of Centerville, also two grand daughters, as well as a host of
friends. He passed away on January 12th, 1934, after a short illness, at
the age of 82 years, 11 month, and 21 days.
Services were held from the Church of Christ in Centerville
Sunday, January 14th, at 1:00 o'clock, internment being in the Grange cemetery,
where beside the wife who preceded him some years ago, he was laid to rest.
