FINAL RITES for Wm. G. BOWLING LYLE RESIDENT
William G. Bowling was born February 7, 1905 in Enderby,
British Columbia. Surviving him are his wife, Ethel Bowling, Lyle, Washington;
one son, William Bowling, Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Carol Girl,
Fairbanks, Alaska and Cordelia Hickman, Lyle, Washington; two brothers, Eldon
of Anchorage, Alaska and Edward, Manhattan Beach, California; a sister, Goldie
Cardullo of Florida. Also surviving him are 13 grandchildren and one great
grandchild, born just 3 weeks before his death.
Mr. Bowling was the 6th child in a family of 10 children.
His parents left Missouri in 1904 and traveled by covered wagon into Canada.
Stopping at Enderby, B.C. in February of 1905 his mother gave birth to him.
A short while later the family moved on to homestead land close to Kamloops,
B. Columbia. During the first World War, his family left Canada and migrated
into Oregon where they lived for several years. Then into California where
he later met his future wife. They were married October 30, 1929 and lived
together 43 years - until the time of his death.
William G. Bowling mined for 7 years during the depression
in the Piute Mountain Range near the old Ghost town on Havilah, California.
In 1940 he went into defense work as a plumber and steamfitter; in 1950 he
went to Alaska where he worked seasonally for 20 years as a construction
worker on military installations.
In 1958 he bought a ranch and moved his family to Lyle,
Washington. In 1971 he retired and spent the last 1½ years with his
children in Fairbanks, Alaska and in Washington at his home above Lyle.
