FORMER APPLETON RESIDENT PASSES

     Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Carter, a resident of Yakima since 1955, were held Tuesday at Shaw and Sons Funeral Home in Yakima with Rev. Richard Hake officiating. Graveside services were held in the Balch Cemetery in Lyle at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
     Mrs. Carter passed away of leukemia March 19 in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. She was born August 20, 1916 at Tunas, Mo., the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Starkey. She was married to Ray Carter of Tunas June 11, 1933 and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Racine Bertschi of Lyle; three sons Jerry of The Dalles, and Larry and Ronald of Yakima.
     Her father preceded her in death April 7, 1939. Survivors are her husband and children, her mother, Mrs. Cora Starkey, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Loren Starkey, U.S. Army; six sisters, Mrs. Velma Stidham, Mrs. Jessie Allen, and Mrs. Wanda Bishop, all of Tunas; Mrs. Dottie Harmon and Mrs. Kathryn Lane of Kansas City; and Mrs. Edith Nordstrom of Lyle; two granddaughters, Debra and Janet Carter of The Dalles; four grandsons, William Lee Carter, The Dalles; Jerry Ray, Lee and Robin Bertschi of Lyle.
     Mrs. Carter with her family moved from Missouri in 1937 to Appleton, where she made many friends and will be remembered by everyone for her cheery smile and deeds of kindness.
