CHAPPEL RITES TO BE HELD THURS. 11 A.M.
Walter Gordon Chappel, a resident of White Salmon since
1919, passed away at Hood River Memorial Hospital on Sept. 15th at the age
of 81 years. He was born to Mary and Alfred Chappel on March 18, 1894 in
Staffa, Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Chappel was a retired mill wright and with the exception
of a short time, spent at Trout Lake and Washougal, he had lived in this
community since moving from Canada. He had been employed by the Northwestern
Lumber Co. for a number of years and was well known as an excellent saw filer.
He was united in marriage in Saskatchewan, Canada on
Nov. 28, 1918. To this union were born a daughter and five sons. He is survived
by: his wife, Clara, White Salmon; a daughter, Doris Dillon, White Salmon;
four sons: Walter Gordon Chappel, Jr., of White Salmon, Maurice A. Chappel
of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Kenneth L. Chappel of Monterey, Ca., and Gene F.
Chappel of Salinas, Ca. One son, Roy, preceded him in death. Also surviving
are two sisters: Ollie Getty and Nettie Fowler, both of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan,
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today Thursday, Sept. 18,
at 11 a.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Howard and Rev. M.L.
Galligan of Hood River officiating. Interment will be at White Salmon Cemetery.
