WILLIAM G. "BILL" GARNER
William G. (Bill) Garner, 85, of Goldendale, died April
23, 2002 at his home.
Bill was born Feb. 25,1917 in The Dalles to Frank and
Mary (Hollingsworth) Garner. He lived on the family ranch in Centerville
that was homesteaded in 1876. Bill graduated from Centerville High School
in 1934, and on August 14,1942 he married his wife, Ruth in Tacoma. Bill
ranched in Centerville most of his life. In 1962 he moved to Goldendale and
commuted back and forth.
Bill had been a brand inspector for many years. He had
been a member of the Centerville Grange, a 4-H leader, served two years as
president of the Klickitat County Fair Board, was on the Centerville School
Board from 1954 until 1963 and had received the Ollie P. Kreps Award for
the Pioneer Cattleman in 1998. He was a member of the Goldendale United Methodist
Church and was a member of the choir.
A son, William F. Garner; two sisters, Elizabeth Brower
and Gayle Thompson; and one brother, Leo Garner, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Goldendale; one
son, Phillip Garner, and his wife, Kathleen, of Goldendale; one daughter,
Lynn Garner of Centerville; one brother, Henry Garner, of Centerville; one
sister, Janice Creson, of Seattle; seven grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 27 at the Centerville
School. Burial was in the Centerville Cemetery.
