WILLIAM GUFFEY
William Herman Guffey, of Glenwood, died May 20, 1996,
at the Hood River Care Center, at the age of 87.
Mr. Guffey was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Hollis, Ark., to
Flora S. (Cannon) and George O. Guffey. He grew up in Arkansas. He served
in World War II in the Army. After his discharge, he settled in Sacremento,
Calif. He worked in an almond plant for many years. He married Mary Perry
on Oct. 6, 1962, in Sacremento. They moved to Auburn in the mid-1960s, where
he worked as a janitor for Auburn High School.
The couple came to Glenwood in the late 1970s to be near
family. Mary died in 1987. He loved his garden and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Guffey is survived by his sons Van Guffey, Sacremento,
Calif., Billy Joe Guffey, Tennessee, and Johnny Guffey, Louisiana; daughters
Eva Dale Mashburn, California, Willamette Guffey, Bigalo, Ark., Maude Tolbert,
Houston, Ark., Peggy Hightower, Perryville, Ark.; several step-children including
Harry Dechand, Glenwood; sisters Martha Womack, Odessa, Texas, brother Frank
Guffey, Battle Creek, Mich.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held May 24, 1996, at 4 p.m.
at the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood, with Rev. Greg Petrie officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Cemetery Association.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.
