WINIFRED JONES
Winifred Irene Wood Jones died in Lyle on Sept. 2, 2006, at the age
of 98. She was born on Aug. 8, 1908, in Withrow to Rockwell Joseph Wood and
Amanda Irene Arnett Wood.
At age five, she left her home in Washington and moved with her mother
and one of her brothers to California. She lived in many different places in
California and attended many different schools. In 1918 she returned to
Washington, and in 1921, moved with her mother and her stepfather to Trout
Lake, where her stepfather Ernest Reed was pastor of the Presbyterian
Church. While attending church, she met Arthur Jones. They were married May
28, 1927.
During all the years of her marriage, Mrs. Jones lived in Trout Lake
where she and her husband operated a small dairy farm. After his death in
1968 she became the librarian for Trout Lake School, where she served for
seven years.
In 1975 she sold her Trout Lake home and moved into an apartment in
Klamath Falls, Ore., to be near her daughter. She lived there for 23 years
and enjoyed her downtown neighborhood. She enjoyed walking and made many
friends.
In 1998 Winifred returned to Trout Lake. There, she enjoyed her daily
walk to the post office. She attended church on Sunday and enjoyed eating at
the local restaurant where her favorite was coffee and ice cream.
On Feb. 14, 2004, she entered an adult family home in Lyle.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two daughters, Shirley and Ardith; nine
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great, great-grandchildren.
May the Lord guide and comfort the family and friends of Mrs. Jones.
A private graveside service was held at the Trout Lake Cemetery. A
memorial service will take place at a later date.

A memorial services for Winifred Jones, who died on Sept. 2, 2006, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Trout Lake.
