FINAL RITES FOR W.M. ARNOLD TODAY

     Funeral services for Willford M. Arnold, White Salmon merchant who passed away August 14, will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home here. Interment will be in Balch Cemetery at Lyle.
     Willford M. Arnold was born on November 5, 1878 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He had lived here for 25 years.
     He is survived by his wife Grace, of White Salmon; 2 sons, Everett W. of Portland and Calvin R. of Ellensburg, Washington; and one daughter, Virginia Charters of White Salmon and three grandchildren.
     He owned and operated Arnold's station and market on Highway 8 at the intersection with the Dock road.
     The Rev. George P. George will officiate at the services.

RITES HELD FOR W.M. ARNOLD

     Services were held at Gardners funeral home at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 18, for Willford Merriet Arnold, 76, who died of a stroke at Skyline hospital, Sunday, August 14. The Rev. George P. George officiated. Burial was in Balch Cemetery near Lyle.
     Mr. Arnold was born on Nov. 5, 1878 at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of George W. and Sarah A. Arnold. He was the last if five brothers.
     When he was twelve the family moved to Unionville, Missouri and in June 1903 to Spokane, Wn. Later they operated the Baker hotel and other businesses in Bellingham until he turned to logging and lumbering.
     In 1917, he, his mother and three brothers came to Lyle to take charge of fluming and loading lumber at the Door landing on Major Creek.
     On March 20, 1919, he was married to Miss Grace M. Nichols at Vancouver. She and their three children survive him; Everett W. of Portland, Calvin R. of Ellensburg; and Virginia J., Mrs. Robert Charters of Bingen.
     In November 1926 the Arnolds moved to Ontario, Ore., to operate a dairy farm in partnership with Mrs. Arnold's father, the late Clyde Nichols. They acquired a ranch at Elgin and farmed it for a year before moving to Underwood to manage the hotel from November 1926 to 1933.
     In the latter years they moved again to the Old Cannery tract at the foot of Dock Grade where Mr. Arnold built several cabins and a home. Since 1946-1947 when they bought the Parrish property they have operated the Bridge Highway Service store and station.

WILFORD M. ARNOLD BURIED THURSDAY

     WHITE SALMQN (Special) - Funeral services were held at Gardner's funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 18 for Wilford M. Arnold, owner of the Bridge Hiway Service and Store at the foot of dock grade. Rev. George P. George officiated at the service, with interment at the Balch Cemetery at Lyle.
     Mr. Arnold was born on November 5, 1878 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. On Saturday, August 13 he suffered a stroke and was taken to Skyline Hospital, where he passed away the next day. He had been a resident here for the past 23 years.
     He is survived by his wife Grace of white Salmon; two sons, Everett of Portland and Calvin of Ellensburg, and one daughter, Virginia Charters of White Salmon, and three grandchildren.
