WANDA RUTLEDGE
Wanda Murray Rutledge died in Santee, Calif., on April
10, 2001.
She was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Glenwood to Frank and
Susetta Murray. She lived her early days in Glenwood before moving to Los
Angeles. Calif., at the age of 16 to live with her sister Gladys. After
graduating from high school, she worked as a hostess in her sister's restaurant,
where she met many celebrities during the "Golden Days" of
Hollywood.
She moved to Lyle in 1956 and worked with her mother,
who was manager of the local telephone office.
In 1958, she became the bride of Lawrence Rutledge, an
engineer with the SP & S Railroad. In their leisure time, the couple's
favorite diversion was playing golf. When they retired, they traveled extensively
and in 1980 began spending their winters in Yuma. Ariz.
Her greatest gift was making friends. Her wit and warm
sincerity endeared her to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, Lyle: sons
Terry, Gaston, Ore., Patrick, Goldendale, and Philip, Marysville; and numerous
cousins.
A memorial in her honor will be held May 16, 2001, at
the White Salmon Elks Lodge between 2 and 4 p.m.
