RODEO PATRON CONBOY DIES

The end of an era came to a close Wednesday, Dec. 18 with the passing of William P. Conboy.
Folks who knew him would not have been surprised to hear that he died while working, unloading hay from the back of a flatbed truck.
One longtime friend didn't mince words when remembering Conboy, she simply said, "He worked. That's Bill."
Conboy, 66, moved to Goldendale 25 years ago from Glenwood. He raised cattle and hauled them all over Oregon and Washington. A hardworking man, Conboy lived the life of a rancher.
"He had a strong personality," one of his many friends said when describing Conboy's character. He worked from sun up to sun down."
Conboy was instrumental in getting the arena at the Goldendale fairgrounds rebuilt back in 1993.
He worked as a Chairman of the Klickitat County Fair Board for over five years and as Director of the county rodeo. He was in charge of all planning and logistics for the event, coordinated judging and kept the grounds neat.
Conboy had a lot of experience rodeoing long before he came to Goldendale.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s he was considered one of the top cow muggers in the Northwest.
More recently, Conboy showed enthusiastic support for youngsters inthe junior rodeo. He also was known to avidly attend high school basketball games, even though he didn't have any of his own children playing. He just loved kids.
Bill Conboy was a unique individual who worked hard and gave of himself to the community.
One old friend summed his life up best: "Bill Conboy was a can do kind of person. He got things done."
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec.30 at 10 a.m. at the New Life Assembly of God Church, located at 1602 S. Columbus in Goldendale; Pastor Ken Akins will officiate.
