"Lyle"

     The remains of H.C. Smith, who lived in Medford, Oregon, were laid to rest in the Pine Hill cemetery at Lyle, Sunday afternoon, by the side of his wife, who died five years ago. Mr. Smith was one of Lyle's earliest settlers, having homesteaded a piece of land just north of the present townsite of Lyle. Mrs. Smith was an aunt of the Splawn brothers.

     SMITH -- William Passens Smith died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.H. Denison, 336 S. Holly, yesterday from paralysis, age 67 years, 4 months, 11 days. He was a pioneer of Oregon, crossing the plains with his parents in 1960. deceased was born in Victoria, Ill., March 17, 1855, and had been a resident of Medford three years, Grants Pass 11 years and of Lyle, Wash., 15 years. He is a member of Everett, Wash., W.O.W. and leaves two daughters, Mrs. J.H. Denison and Miss Jessie may Smith of Medford. Remains will be forwarded to Lyle, Wash., for interment Saturday evening.
