WILLARD P. WANG

     Willard (Bill) P. Wang, retired Chief of Police of the City of Bingen, died at Skyline Hospital, White Salmon, Wash., Nov. 27, 1986.
     Born to Palmer and Clara Wang Sept. 4, 1922 in The Dalles, Ore., he was a descendant of the Ivor Wang family who migrated from Wisconsin to homestead in the Trout Lake valley in 1900.
     Mr. Wang was well-known as a basketball center for Trout Lake High School and as an avid baseball participant. Following his graduation in 1941, he attended the Eastern Washington College in Cheney, Wash.
     During World War II, Mr. Wang served with the 37th Infantry Division in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, he returned to Trout Lake, working at the Harold Hollenbeck Lumber Mill.
     Mr. Wang re-enlisted in the Army in October, 1948. His military career included Military Police service at Fort Lewis, Wash.; Ft. Mason, San Francisco, Calif.; Korea; Augsburg and Manheim, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas. In 1959 he moved his family to Plainview, Texas, where he served as a recruiter until his retirement in 1963.
     Mr. Wang began working for the City of Bingen police department in 1965 and served as chief until his retirement in 1983.
     He is survived by his wife Mary, Bingen; sons, Jerry C., of Portland; Willard, Jr., Bend, Ore.; Philip, White Salmon; Thomas, Bingen; Gregory, Bend, Ore. and one daughter, Shirlene Tropser, Goldendale. Other survivors include his mother, Clara, Forks, Wash.; two brothers, Martin, Long Beach, Calif., and Walter, Forks; two sisters, Jean Corum, White Salmon, and Anita Aplin, Forks and 13 grandchildren.
     He was a member of the 37th Division Veterans Association; National Police Officers Association; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mt. Adams Aerie No. 2210, and Mt. Adams Lodge No. 1868, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
     Services will be held at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bingen-White Salmon Community Benefit Fund in care of Postmaster, Bingen, Washington.
