WILLIAM S. WHITE

     William S. White, a lifetime resident of Lyle, Wash., died in Hood River July 19. He was 81.
     Mr. White was born April 23, 1905 on a ranch near Biggs, where his parents homesteaded. They moved to Centerville, Wash. When he was 12 they moved to Lyle, where he has lived since. He grew wheat.
     After selling his ranch he worked for the Lyle School system for 20 years as a bus driver and maintenance man. He was a member of the Columbia Grange.
     He is survived by his wife, Madeline White, Lyle; a daughter Pat Deisch, Hood River; two sons: William White, Palmer, Alaska; and Don White, Anchorage, Alaska; a sister Helen Steinke, The Dalles; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. at Smith Callaway Chapel. Committal services will be held at Balch Cemetery at Lyle. Pastor Haarstad from Lyle will officiate.
