WALTER CRANE OF LYLE PASSES AT THE DALLES HOSPITAL
Walter Vernon Crane was born July 15th, 1875 in Greenfield,
Indiana. He was married to Georgia Richardson on December 25th, 1896. To
this union were born four children, Mary, Albert, Ernest and Everett. Mr.
and Mrs. Crane came to Lyle from Portland in 1902 and homesteaded in Appleton
for nine years. They came back to Lyle in September of 1911 and started the
telephone Company there and operated it for 20 years. Mrs. Georgia Crane
and the four children have preceded him in death.
Walter started to work as a division lineman for the
S.P.& S. Railway in 1917 and retired in 1940. He has been a member of
the Masonic Lodge No. 163 at White Salmon, Washington since Oct. 24th 1927
and was a member of the Columbia Grange No. 87 of Lyle and also the Chamber
of Commerce.
On March 16th, 1938 he was married to Marjorie Fuller
who now survives him. Other relatives include a half-sister, Ethel Patterson
of Los Angeles, California half-brother, Jesse Crane of Ontario, Calif;
half-brother, Floyd Crane of Kansas City, Mo.; half-brothers Joe and Floyd
Socks of Indiana.
Mr. Crane passed away at The Dalles Hospital March 19th
at the age of 76.
Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March
22nd at the Gardners Funeral Home in White Salmon. Interment will be in the
Lyle Cemetery.

WALTER CRANE KNEW TRAGEDY
Few men knew tragedy so well as Walter Crane, 76, Lyle
resident for half a century. His only daughter Mary died of typhoid. His
first wife and his son Everett were killed in automobile accidents. Another
son, Albert was eleetrocuted while working as a telephone employee in Yakima.
Exactly a Year prior to Walter Crane's own funeral last Saturday, his last
surviving son Ernest passed away in his sleep.

the couple homesteaded in Appleton.
Nine years later they moved to Lyle and started the telephone
company which they operated for 20 years.
From 1917 to his retirement in 1940, Mr. Crane worked
as a division lineman for the S.P.&S. Railway. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge No. 163 at White Salmon for 25 years and belonged to the Columbia
Grange (87) of Lyle and also the Chamber of Commerce.
On March 16, 1938 he was married to Marjorie Fuller who

Mr. Crane died at The Dalles hospital March 19. Masonic
services were held at 2 p.m. last Saturday, March 22 at Gardners Funeral
Home. Interment was in the Lyle Cemetery. Active Masonic pall bearers were
Will O'Neal, Bill Biggers, Homer James, Bob Chamberlain, R.F. Niblock, Mr.
Morginson, Byrd Clark and Olaf Baker.
