WALTER V. HEWITT
Walter Vincent Hewitt Sr. of Lyle died Oct. 28 at The
Dalles. He was 63.
He was born Dec. 13, 1924 in Wyeth, Ore. to Della Mary
(Gilbert) and Clarence William Hewitt. Raised in the Lyle area, he served
in the Navy in World War II, and helped construct The Dalles Dam.
He married Marjorie Turlock in Stevenson on Feb.24, 1959;
he was a logger, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and
the Lyle Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Hewitt is survived by his wife Marjorie, at home
in Lyle; and his children, Richard Hewitt of Washougal, Linda Trautman of
Lyle, John Duback of The Dalles, Stanley Duback of Klickitat, William Hewitt
of Crescent Lake, Ore.; and Walter Hewitt, Jr., Lester Hewitt, Clarence William
Hewitt II, and Della Mary Hewitt, all of Lyle.
He is also survived by his sisters, Eda Hewitt of Whidbey
Island, Wash., Mae Lane of Portland; Vera Roberts of Goldendale; and 28
grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home, Pastor Dave Stewart officiating. Committal was at Lyle Balch
Cemetery in Lyle.
