Yvonne Jeanne Davy, of White Salmon, died Thursday, Dec.
1, at White Salmon. She was 76.
She was born July 19, 1912 in Worcester, South Africa,
to Jean-Yves of Gourville and Anna van der Westhuizen. She taught music and
primary school for seven years at Helderberg College in South Africa before
getting married. She then served with her husband for another four years
at Helderberg, 23 years in Central and East Africa, seven years in Prineville,
Ore., and six years in White Salmon. They retired in 1978 and had lived here
since.
Mrs. Davy authored 12 books and numerous articles. She
was also known as the "Camp Meeting Story Teller" to two generations because,
from 1967 to 1987, she had the story hour for both primary and junior divisions
at the Seventh-day Adventist camp meeting in Gladstone, Ore. After retirement
she once again taught piano.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur, of White Salmon;
two daughters, Anita Davy-Bravo of Oakland, Calif., and Gloria Davy, Mugonero
Hospital, Rwanda, Central Africa; one son, Denzil Davy, and three grandchildren,
Monica, Jeremy and Karen Davy, all of Colville, Wash.; and one sister, Louise
Eiffers of Cape Town, South Africa.
Memorial services for Mrs. Davy were held Tuesday afternoon,
Dec. 6, at the White Salmon Seventh-day Adventist Church. Elders Randy Gearhart
and Jack Harris, and Rev. John A. Grabner officiated. Private interment Tuesday
morning at the White Salmon Cemetery preceded the service.
