TAYLOR
Zelma Elizabeth Taylor, born in Centerville June 10,
1902 to John and Elizabeth Miller, passed away March 8 at Mt. Adams Care
Center after a long illness.
After beginning school in Centerville, she moved with
her family to Goldendale and graduated from high school here. In June, 1924,
she graduated from the University of Washington, and began teaching English,
Latin and French at Centerville high School that fall.
She married Joe Taylor, a fellow Centerville teacher,
in 1925, and in 1926 they moved to Kittitas, then to Kelso, where she was
the organist for the Methodist Church. After several years, they moved to
Portland, where her husband taught chemistry until his retirement.
Mrs. Taylor remained active with her church and with
home extension, at the same time helping to develop farmland they had purchased
near Tigard. After Mr. Taylor's retirement, they moved to Mesa, Arizona,
where they lived for 16 years until his death in 1979.
She lived at Camlu Retirement Home in The Dalles two
years, then spent the last three years of her life at Mt. Adams Care
Center.
She was a life member of the Klickitat County Historical
Society and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Evergreen
Chapter No. 1, Goldendale.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers
Henry and Reginald Miller, Mrs. Taylor is survived by a brother, Jerry Miller,
Stevenson; by three sister; Mary Jaekel, Centerville, and Helen Reierson
and Jean Hannifan, both of The Dalles. Also to grieve her passing are 19
nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Private graveside services were held at the Centerville
Cemetery Monday, March 12. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to Mt. Adams Care Center.
