ZONA HOCTOR
Zona Hoctor, 100, of Goldendale, died Dec. 19, 2000 in
Goldendale.
She was born Oct.11, 1900 in Rockford, to Charles and
Eva McDowell. The family moved to The Dalles area when Zona was 11 years
old and she attended school at 15-Mile School and high school in The
Dalles.
The family moved to a farm in Goldendale in 1916. Zona
attended No.12 school for two years. Zona married William Hoctor on Nov.
11, 1919 in Goldendale. They owned and operated a ranch on Hoctor Road for
many years. Zona's last goal in life was to reach the age of 100; she celebrated
that goal with a birthday party in October with over 100 of her family and
friends in attendance.
Zona was an excellent cook. She loved growing flowers,
sewing, crocheting and taking care of her family. She was a member of Holy
Trinity Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the Grange, the Wool Growers
and the ceramic club.
Her husband, William; one son, Emmett; one brother, Cecil
McDowell and one sister, Marie Green preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Willis and Dorothy
Dressel and one son, Charles, all of Goldendale; 17 grandchildren; 50
great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was said Dec. 23 at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church with Fr. William Byron, Celebrant. Interment was in Holy
Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Erdman Funeral Home.
