ZOLA K. LANE
Services were held Monday, Oct. 30, at the Gardner Funeral
Home for Zola Katherine Lane of White Salmon who died Oct. 26 here. She was
85.
She was born in Laurel Nov. 21, 1903, to Della (Murray)
and Joseph Hylton. She was raised in Panakanic, above Husum, and went to
college in Cheney, where she obtained a lifetime teaching certificate. Her
first teaching position was at Gilmer.
June 20, 1925, she married Glen Lane. The couple moved
to White Salmon in 1928, where Mrs. Lane taught until retirement in 1969.
She continued to substitute teach for many years.
Mrs. Lane attended Bethel Congregational Church and was
a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed traveling and playing
bridge. She was preceded in death by husband Glen (Oct. 26, 1980).
She is survived by a daughter Gerry Brashears of Hood
River, Oregon, nephew Robert McDermott up Bakersfield, Calif., brother Byron
Hylton of Portland, granddaughters Pamela Knaack of Scappoose, Ore., and
Sherry Durgan of Madras, Ore., niece Myrna Fraser of White Salmon, four great
grandchildren and numerous cousins in the area.
Rev. Arthur Dickey was pastor at the Lane service. Committal
was at White Salmon Cemetery. Contributions in Mrs. Lane's name may be donated
to the Bethel Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
