ZENA HOUDESHELDT

     Zena Murial Houdesheldt, a resident of Lyle and a native of Klickitat County, died Thursday, June 2, at her home. She was 71. She was born Sept. 27, 1916 to Murriel C. Staack and James Earl West in Glenwood.
     As a young girl, she lived with her family in Sundale and Bickleton (her father was a sheepherder). The family moved to Lyle in 1921, though she graduated from Goldendale High School. In 1945 she married Everett Dale Houdesheldt in White Salmon. He was in the Navy and they moved around a great deal. After Dale's retirement from the Navy, they settled in Lyle in 1959. She worked for Nelson-Rooper-Onstorr in The Dalles, Ore., for eight years, retiring in 1980 to be a full-time grandmother. Mrs. Houdesheldt was a member of the Emblem Club, the Order of Eastern Star and attended the Congregational Church. She loved to sew.
     Mrs. Houdesheldt is survived by a daughter, Sharron Johnson of Lyle; a sister, Collen Gagnon of Salt Lake City, Utah; a brother, Keith West of Lake Oswego, Ore., and a granddaughter, Steffanie Johnson of Lyle.
     Services for Mrs. Houdesheldt were Monday, June 6, in the chapel of Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon. The Rev. Arthur Dickie officiated. Interment followed in the Lyle Balch Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.

     Zena Muriel Houdesheldt, 71, Lyle, died June 2 at home.
     She was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Glenwood, Wash., the daughter of James and Murriel C. Staack West.
     She had lived in Bickleton where her father had a sheep ranch and moved to Lyle in 1921. She graduated from Goldendale High School. In 1945 she married Dale Houdesheldt in White Salmon. He was in the U.S. Navy and in 1959 they settled in Lyle on his retirement from the Navy.
     Mrs. Houdesheldt had worked for Nelson, Rooper and Onstott Public Accountants in The Dalles from 1972-80 shen she retired. She was a member of the Emblem Club, Eastern Star, Congregational Church and enjoyed sewing.
     Funeral services will be Monday, June 6, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Lyle Balch Cemetery.
     Survivors include a daughter, Sharron Johnson, Lyle; a sister, Collen Gagnon, Salt Lake City, Utah; a brother, Keith West, Lake Oswego; a granddaughter, Steffanie Johnson of Lyle.
