Graduation for Trout Lake's class of 2001 will be remembered as
a time of triumph and tragedy. Following the presentation of our eighth
grade graduates by Class Adviser Doug Deardon, a rousing Pomp and
Circumstance by Jeff Agar’s band students led the march for our seniors: Jay
Beeks, Christie Eichentopf, Cody Griffith, Shannon Smith, Jared Ladwig,
Uriah Locke (not present), Melody McPherson, Laura Meyer, Contanza
Montenegro (honorary), Shannon Rummel, Michael Sandford, Brian Smith, Kelsey
Sweek, and Nicolette Tietsort.
Co-Valedictorians Cody Griffith and Nicole Tietsort and
Salutatorian Christie Eichentoph, addressed us with words that looked back
over four years of many more ups than downs, and each look forward to a
future in a spirit of giving of themselves to benefit others. Scholarship
monies presented by Counselor, Tammy Hosaka, exceeded $170,000.
Dennis Anderson, class adviser, acknowledged the Class of 2001
as an outstanding class of students to work with throughout his 10 years of
teaching in Trout Lake. The good feelings and gratitude Dennis expressed as
he leaves our school to teach next year in Methow, are, reciprocated by
Trout Lake staff and community. We know Dennis as a fine teacher; he and
Susy are thoughtful, compassionate people who won't be forgotten anytime
soon.
Superintendent David Stokes gave the closing. He also gave the
welcome to open the ceremony. This writer with all those present echoed our
superintendent’s heartfelt emotions of sadness over the tragic accident that
kept Uriah Locke from graduating with his classmates.
Uriah was lifeflighted to a Manual Legacy Hospital in Portland,
late Friday afternoon of graduation night. The update on his condition as
of this morning, June 11, is that Uriah will be moved from intensive care to
a private room. He sustained massive injuries, but is showing hopeful signs
of rallying. He has our thoughts and prayers.

Trout Lake High School Class 2001 Graduation was held June 8. The class of 2001 marched to the traditional ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ through a gateway of balloons, wearing the traditional cap and gown, and kept up the Trout Lake tradition of outstanding scholarship activity. A class of 14 graduating students received a total of $173,000 in educational scholarship awards! This outstanding educational performance set a great example for the graduating eighth graders. Our Trout Lake community is proud of all these graduating from both the eighth grade and high school -- the first of many educational goals. All of those graduating from high school and home school have entered into a lifelong habit of learning.
