TROUT LAKE’S GRAD PARADE LED BY BOYS

Monte Pearson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Pearson, has been named valedictorian of Trout Lake High School's 1965 graduating class.  Salutatorian is John Deiders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm S. Deiders.
            Monte's grade point average through four years of high school is 3.9; John's 3.46.
            In addition to being top scholars, both boys are Lettermen.  Monte participated in basketball, track and cross country.  John played basketball and baseball.
            Monte was treasurer of his Freshman & Sophomore classes -- and president of his Junior class, Senior class and Student Body.  His future plans are indefinite.
            John contemplates a career in accounting and plans to attend either Clark College or Western Washington State College.

TROUT LAKE MAN GIVEN SCHOLARSHIP

     James Barratte Cunningham who has taught math and science at Trout Lake for the past two years, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship for Syracuse University at Syracuse, New York.
     The program offered by the University is for a master’s degree.  It begins September 1965 and ends in June of 1966.  For those participants who do well, there is an additional summer's Institute offered, with an additional allowance being paid.
     The work will be in the fields of science and math.  Any math or science teacher in the U.S. is allowed to apply for grants offered by various universities. Thirty of forty participants are selected on the following criteria: 1. At least three years teaching experience. 2. Letters of recommendation. 3.  Knowledge of the subject matter and ability. 4. Teaching ability and further teaching potential.
     Mr. Cunningham, who is a graduate of the W.W.C.E., Bellingham, and Bellingham High School, made his home with the J.G. Strong, while he lived in Trout Lake.
     He has taught chorus this past year and sung in this church choir as well as making solo appearances at many community gatherings.
     All of Trout Lake wishes him well.  He will be missed by all as his work with the young people of the community has been outstanding.
