MARTHA McNEEL IS VALEDICTORIAN AT TROUT LAKE

Martha is the daughter of Robert and Margaret McNeel who are dairy farmers in the Trout Lake Valley.  Martha has lived in Trout Lake all of her life and attended the Trout Lake school for twelve years.
            During her Freshman year she was class president and took part in J.V. volleyball and track.  She was a J.V. cheerleader, Trout Lake Community Fair Princess and took part in 4-H.  During her Sophomore year she was on the Varsity volleyball team, held the office of student body treasurer and president of the Baptist Youth Fellowship, was girl of the month and also participated in 4-H.  As a Junior she held the offices of Girl’s League Vice-President, Student Body Treasurer, and Secretary-Treasurer of the class. In sports she was in track, volleyball, and a J.V. cheerleader.  She also represented the Trout Lake Community in the Huckleberry Festival of the 1969 as a Princess.  During her Senior year she kept score for basketball and is participating in track.  She has held the office of Girl’s League President, Christian Youth Crusade Vice-President, Annual Editor, and has been Girl of the Quarter.
            This fall might have plans to enter college and major in Home Economics and minor in Physical Education; she then hopes to teach high school.  Martha also dreams of traveling and meeting people.
            Martha's G.P.A. is 3.74.

VICKY AUSTIN SECOND HIGHEST

Vicky is the daughter of William and Monnie Austin, her father is a logger. Vicky has gone to Trout Lake High School for four years.  Her freshman year she participated in volleyball, was class treasurer-secretary, and also on the Honor Roll.
            During her Sophomore year she participated in volleyball, was Junior Varsity cheerleader, student council representative for the Sophomore class, and on the Honor Roll.  In her Junior year she played volleyball and was a Varsity cheerleader, student council representative for the Sophomore class, and on the Honor Roll.  In her junior year she played volleyball and was a Varsity Cheerleader., student council representative for the Girl’s League, participated in track, and was on the Honor Roll.
            In her senior year she played volleyball, was class vice-president, chosen Girl of the Quarter and was on the Honor Roll.
            Vicky hopes to go to college next fall, and would like to become a teacher.  Vicky’s G.P.A. is  3.52.

TROUT LAKE AWARD NIGHT HELD MAY 22

On Friday, May 23, 1970 about 150 people attended the Awards Banquet sponsored by the Trout Lake Girls League in the Trout Lake School Gym.  After a delicious meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings Mr. Bob Summers, Track Coach of Mabton gave a talk on the value of sports in education and the development of young people.  A short skit was presented by Tim Frodsham and Karen Holly, a dance routine by this years Cheerleaders, Carol Hollenbeck, Cheryl Bryan, and Karen Holly.  Then a long list of awards and letters were presented as follows: Betty Crocker Awards to Carol Hollenbeck and Sharon Arnold.  Typing Pins to Kelly Shideler, Vicky Austin, Carol Hollenbeck, Lee Frodsham.  Bookkeeping Pins to Margi Burdett, Beverly Beeks, and Ella Elmer.  Shorthand pins to Susan Todd, Vicky Austin, Martha McNeel, Lee Frodsham, and Kelly Shideler.  Time Current Events Award to Kathy Woodruff.
            For scoring in the top 90% nationally in the N.E.D.T. Awards were made to Mike Hudson, seventh grade; Joyce McNeel, eighth grade; Carla Carrol, ninth grade.  The Danforth Awards were presented to Chuck Bryan and Martha McNeel.  A George Fox College Scholarship of $700 per year for four years was presented to Martha McNeel, Martha also received the Readers Digest Award.
            Outstanding American High School students Awards were presented to Sharon Arnold, Vicky Austin, and Martha McNeel.  American Legion Award from David Woodruff Post was presented Karen Holly, and Martha McNeel.
            Girls State Award was presented by Mrs. Walter Schmid in behalf of the American Legion Auxiliary of David Woodruff Post to Ella Elmer.
            School Spirit Award went to Karen Holly.  Outstanding shop students were Tracy Schmid, Mike Etcher, and Sharon Arnold.
            The Student Body Officers for the 1970-71 school year were then announced.  Margi Burdett -- President, Elaine Leslie -- Vice President, Cheryl Bryan -- Secretary.  Cheerleaders: Varsity; Cheryl Bryan, Cindy McAllister, Beverly Beeks, Junior Varsity; Debbie Lutgen, and Susan Austin. 
            Sports Awards were then presented with Basketball Co-Captain awards being given to Dave Meyer and Jon Caryl.  Most valuable Basketball Player, David Meyer.  Volleyball Co-Captain Awards to Karen Holly and Beverly Beeks.  Volleyball most valuable player award to Margi Burdett.  Girls Track most valuable player award to Lee Frodsham and Boys Track to Tim Frodsham.  Cross Country most improved runner -- Jon Caryl.  Girls League -- Girl of the Year Award to Beverly Beeks.
            Mr. Frodsham read the Senior Class Will.  Then letter awards were made as follows: Pep Club: Margi Burdett, Elaine Leslie, Beverly Beeks, Lee Frodsham, Kelly Shideler, Martha McNeel, Rosalie Schmid, Carla Carroll, Kathy Woodruff, Rhonda Bryan, Cheryl Locke, Suann Schmid, Cindy Bush.
            Klickitat County Track Champions for Girls and all lettering with a Varsity Letter were: Cindy McAllister, Margi Burdett, Elaine Leslie, Cheryl Bryan, Karen Woodruff, Nancy Todd, Martha McNeel, Susan Todd, Beverly Beeks, Lee Frodsham, Debbie Lutgen, Rosalie Schmid, Laura Duke, Carol Hollenbeck, and Kathy Woodruff.  League Co-Champions and receiving Varsity letters in Volleyball: Karen Holly, Vicky Austin, Margi Burdett, Beverly Beeks, Judy Collier, Elaine Leslie, Cindy McAllister, Brenda Allaway, Carol Hollenbeck and Laura Duke.
            Those girls receiving “B” letters in Volleyball were: Suann Schmid, Rosalie Schmid, Debbie Lutgen, Cheryl Locke, Rhonda Bryan, Karen Woodruff, Lee Frodsham, Linda McNeel, Nancy Todd, Carla Carroll.
            The Trout Lake Mustangs placed third in the Klickitat County League in the following players lettered for the Varsity: Jon Bryan, Chuck Bryan, David Meyer, Matt Duke, Jon Caryl, David Collier, John Crippen, John Allen, Terry Beeks, and Glenn Hollenbeck.  J.V. Letters to: Kevin Domina, Tim Frodsham, Mark Schmid, Mike Stamy, Bill Beeks, Tom Crippen, and Monty Throop.
            Boys lettering in Cross Country: Dave Collier, Jon Caryl, Terry Beeks, Tim Frodsham, and Jon Bryan.  In Track the following boys received letter awards: Tim Frodsham, Dave Collier, Jon Caryl, Terry Beeks, Dan Van de Vanter, Mark Schmid.
            The Klickitat County Leagues Sportsmanship Award was presented to the Student Body, as well as Girls Track, Volleyball Co-Champion, The Junior High Basketball team placed third in the Junior High League, the girls Junior High Volleyball team won the Klickitat County Jr. High trophy.
            The awards banquet was enjoyed by all and the dinner was superb.

TROUT LAKE EXERCISES; 12 SENIORS GRADUTE

            On May 28 the Commencement Program for the 12 graduating Seniors of the Trout Lake School was held in the High School Auditorium, before a large crowd of relatives and friends.
            David Meyer gave the Welcome, Vicky M. Austin gave the Salutatorian Address, Martha J. McNeel gave the Valedictorian Address.  The High School Chorus under the direction of Mrs. Clela Stamy sang “To Sir, With Love” and “One God”.  Mr. Kenneth Domina, Principal, introduced the speaker of the evening, Mr. Michael Boivin, Ass’t Executive Secretary of the Washington State School Directors, whose topic was “A Time for Beginnings”.  This timely speech was very well received by both students and adults.
            On behalf of the Trout Lake P.T.A. the Scholarship Award of $100 was presented by President Roger Stamy to Martha McNeel.  The Dictionary Awards were presented to 8th graders Rudy Pearson and Joyce McNeel.
            Mrs. Lola Carl presented 8th Grade Certificates to Monnie Susan Austin, Laura Leigh Beeks, Kathleen Ann Curry, Nayna Frodsham, Joyce Crystal McNeel, Marcena Anne Morris, Barbara Carol Schmid, John Wallace Anrig, Thomas Carr Beeks, Kirk Douglas Domina, Lawrence Ray Holtman, Tony William LaFollette, Kenneth Dean Mason, Rudy Nate Pearson, Douglas Alan Throop.
            Mr. Domina presented the Salutatorian and the Valedictorian medals to Vicky Austin and Martha McNeel.  Mr. Carlton Allaway presented High School Diplomas to Martha Jane McNeel, Vicky Marlene Austin, David Bradley Meyer, Brenda Irene Allaway, Sharon Kaye Arnold, Charles Richard Bryan, John Wayne Bryan, John Marvin Crippen, Matthew Alan Duke, Karen Rose Holley, Susan Denise Todd, and Dwayne Carter Throop.
            The Invocation and Benediction were given by Rev. Keith Curry, the Processional and Recessional were played by Elaine Leslie, Organ, and David Collier, Piano.
            The Auditorium and Stage were decorated in the class colors of Carmine Red and Gold, the Seniors were gowned in caps and gowns of the same colors, the boys wearing the red gowns and the girls wearing the gold.  Each senior carried a Carnelian Carnation, which is their class flower.  The decorating and flowers being furnished by the Sophomore Class, as is the custom in Trout Lake.  The class motto quote “Live for Today -- -- For Tomorrow is too Far Away” was in place over the stage.
