The
annual Trout Lake awards banquet was held May 17 evening and was well attended.
Rudy Pearson, 1974 Trout Lake graduate was guest speaker. Many awards, titles
and recognitions were bestowed.
Among the many titles given were Most Likely to Succeed; Faith
Stransky, Guy Huffsmith and Brian Throop; Most Ambitious were Lisa Wright and
Paul Niskanen. These and similar awards were presented by Lisa Wright and Tracy
LeBert.
Jeff Stewart received an award as the outstanding chemistry
student. The outstanding business student award was given to Carol Gribner.
Coach Tom Nitz awarded these players letters for volleyball; Deanna
Bast, Barbie Throop, Judy Beeks, Carol Gribner, Lisa Wright, Martha LeBert and
Darla Smith. Judy Beeks was named most valuable player; Carol Gribner, most
inspirational and Martha LeBert, most improved player.
Three Trout Lake boys played football under the direction of Mike
Lindhe with the White Salmon team. Receiving awards were Mike Gribner, most
improved player, Calvin Brase and James Skerbitz.
Coach Nitz presented basketball letters to Jeff Bast, Joe Stewart,
Andy Van Laar, Skip Theisen, David Van Laar, Mike Hallenbeck, Scott Austin, Paul
Niskanan, Brian Throop, James Skerbitz, Mike Gribner, Guy Huffsmith, Calvin
Brase, Donald Brase and Dov Troop.
Guy Huffsmith was named most valuable player. Donald Brase was
named most inspirational player and Skip Theisen most improved.
Track coach Lee Gribner awarded Carol Gribner, Mike Hallenbeck, Mike
Gribner, Dale Webberly, Jeff Bast and Joe Smith letters. Carol Gribner, Mike
Hallenbeck and Mike Gribner were named most valuable team members.
Cheerleaders receiving letters were Judy Beeks, Cheryl Williams,
Barbie Throop and Carol Gribner. Next year's varsity cheerleaders will be Trish
Davis, Carol Gribner and Nicole Wright. Junior varsity will be Renona Frey,
Martha LeBert and Lori Williams.
Booster club awards went to Carol Gribner and Skip Theisen.
Principal Jack Brase recognized the efforts of people who made
various programs available: Lee Gribner, Lon Johnson and Randy Peterson for
their management of the track teams; Linda Turner for Junior high basketball and
volleyball, Tom Reynolds, Ken Longanecker and Lon Johnson for Saturday morning
basketball, Rhonda King and Sue Lamphier for Saturday morning volleyball.
Mary Ann Miller, Trout Lake Homemakers Club and numerous volunteers
were recognized for participation in the Reading Is Fundamental program.
Recognition was made of independent reading students Mike Gribner,
Nicole Wright and Skip Theisen. Sheri Hansen, was named most outstanding
independent reader.
ASB (Associated Student Body) officers were acknowledged: Faye
Lauterbach, president; Lisa Wright, vice president; Trish Davis, Secretary and
Deanna Bast, treasurer.

GRADUATION SET TONIGHT FOR 10
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Ten
seniors will be graduating at 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday). They are Julie
Denslinger, Judy Beeks, Mike Combelic, Paul Dalziel, Brian Throop, Faith Stransk,
Jeff Stewart, James Skerbitz, Donna Frey and Calvin Brase.
Faith Stransk, class valedictorian and Jeff Stewart, salutatorian
will be commencement speakers. Jeff will also be playing trumpet. Nancy
Parrish, Ruth Belieu and Monte Pearson will be singing a song titled “My
Tribute.”
There will be addresses by Superintendent Tony Zevenbergen and
Principal Jack Brase. Diplomas will be distributed by Jack Brase and Linda
Williams and eighth grade diplomas will be distributed by Mary Landstrom and
Burt Huffsmith.
May 20 was Baccalaureate. Although few seniors attended, the
service was very meaningful to those who did. Trout Lake minister Ron Holcomb
spoke on the topic of “Good News and Bad News.” Pastor Jim McGugin offered the
prayer and scripture reading. Monte Pearson played the prelude and participated
with Jeff Duke, Ron Holcomb, Clyde Robison and Rudy Pearson in a medley of
songs.
