GRADUATION HELD

Rev.
Jim McGuigan addressed the families and friends of gathering seniors the evening
of May 28 at baccalaureate services.
The next night, the senior class and eighth graders received
diplomas. Dale Johnson, former Trout Lake teacher spoke about graduates past,
present and future.
Those in the senior class were Lisa Wright, Mike Gribner, Don Base,
Terry Smith, Faye Lauterbach, Scott Austin, Christine Kelliher, Caroline Schmid,
Barbara Throop, Joe Stewart, Guy Huffsmith and Mike Hallenbeck.
Graduating eighth graders were Gary Bull, Eric Childs, John
Dolieslager, Rene Frey, Mark Klover, Angela Sanford, Mike Theisen, Lanny Smith,
David Webberley, Robert Allen and Brett Wright.
Mike Gribner received a vocational scholarship of $200 from the Mt.
Adams Elks. This was a regional award. He was formerly awarded a $200
scholarship from the Elks in local competition.
Terry Smith had been awarded a $100 scholarship for leadership.
Don Brase was accepted at George Fox College and was awarded a $450
scholarship.
Lisa Wright received a scholastic award from the Washington State
Principal’s Association for being among the top five percent of all 1980
graduating seniors in terms of rate point average.
Mike, Terry, Don and Lisa received medallions for academic
achievement from the Trout Lake Homemakers Club.

STUDENTS RECEIVE MANY AWARDS
The
awards banquet for Trout Lake school students was held May 22 evening with about
130 persons attending. Tom Brase spoke on the value of education and taking
advantage of educational opportunities.
Walter Hill showed slides from the basketball teams trip to Orcas
Ireland, an opportunity for the participants to review a good time and to share
it with others.
Among awards given were recipients of the cheerleader of the year
award. This year, the recipients were Trish and Carol Gribner.
In basketball, Guy Huffsmith was judged most valuable player. Don
Brase and Dove Troop chaired the captain’s and most inspirational player
awards. Tim Cooper was named most improved player.
A plaque with a picture of Trish Davis was dedicated as a memorial
to her. It will be inscribed with the names of the scholars dinner to the six
juniors and seniors with the highest cumulative grade point average over 3.5.
The recipients were Carol Gribner, Cheryl Williams, Skip Theisen, Don Brase,
Terry Smith and Lisa Wright.
Sherry Hansen was named the outstanding teacher’s assistant of the
year.
Martha LeBert, Rhonda Huffman and Nicole Wright were recognized as
independent readers of merit and Terry Smith received the outstanding
independent reader award.
Fred Yancey was voted, by the students, as outstanding teacher of
the year.
Volleyball and basketball team members received letter awards for
team participation.
Barbie Throop received the captain’s award for volleyball. Faye
Lauterbach was awarded the most valuable player award and shared the most
inspirational player title with Carol Gribner. Renona Frey was recognized as the
most improved player.
A Trish Davis Memorial Fund has been established to help girls who
want to be cheerleaders, but have difficulty with the financial demands. The
Girls’ League made a generous contribution to this fund at the awards banquet.
The teachers have established a good base for the fund. Others wishing to
donate to the memorial should contact the school.
Booster club spirit awards were given to Trish Davis, Carol Gribner,
and Steve Theisen.
