NUCLEAR RACE TOPIC

     An awards banquet was held for the junior high track team May 18.  A certificate was given to every athlete along with ribbons earned in league meets.
     The girls team won first place at the Division I meet recently.  The girls were spurred on with the help of Lynnett Ashby, who set a new league record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.  Lynnett won the trophy for the most valuable girl.
     Tim Johnson, who had three firsts in the league meet, won the most valuable boy award.  Page Warner, a fifth grader, received the most improved girl award and John Denslinger, a seventh grader, the most improved boy.
     The Trout Lake School will have a photo contest for the school’s yearbook cover.  Entrants should bring a black and white photo, plus negative, to the school before June 7.  Pictures must be of the Trout Lake area.
     The winner of the contest will win a free yearbook plus a $10 prize.  For more information, contact Linda Bull at 395-2571 or 395-2552.
     The senior high school awards banquet was a busy night of recognition.  Guest speaker Marie Dunham spoke on Youth for Understanding, a foreign program of which Lorrie Williams has been chosen.
     Academic awards led the evening’s events.  Tammy Turner, Holy Wright and Rollie Parrish received recognition as winners in the Mount Adams Spelling Bee.
     Leisa Donnelly and Rhonda Huffman received reading awards and Melinda Beeks received the poetry award.  Jeff LeBert was acknowledged as runner-up.
     Joe Smith was honored as the math student and Anne Lauterbach received in the business award.  Debbie Davis won the homemakers award.
     Artist of the year was awarded to Dave VanLaar.  Lorrie Williams and Nicole Wright were rewarded for their efforts by the Trout Lake Educators Association, which annually presents academic awards to the top scholars.
     The amusing Girls League awards were: grouchiest, Jim Denslinger and Debbie Davis; rowdiest, Nick Dolieslager, Ronda Huffman and Leisa Donnelly; and troublemakers, Jim Denslinger, Nick Dolieslager and Debbie Davis.
     School flirt went to Leisa Donnlly and Renae Frey; wolf, Nick Dolieslager; hall rat, Nick Dolieslager and Leisa Donnelly; best body, Lanny Smith and Annette Seaman; cheeriest, Dave VanLaar and Ronda Huffman; friendliest, Brett Wright, Lorrie Williams, and Ronda Huffman; and quietest, Ernie Reynolds, Tarry Lonas and Tracy Lonas.
     Students voted the best dressed were Dave VanLaar and Lorrie Dolieslager; most courteous, Ernie Reynolds, Nicki Schmid and Ronda Huffman.  School couple was Roger Huffsmith and Tracy Lonas.  Most school spirit was exhibited by Nick Dolieslager and Lorrie Williams.
     Dave VanLaar and Lorrie Williams were chosen as the most ambitious and most likely to succeed.
     The best all-around students were Dave VanLaar, Lorrie Williams and Ronda Huffman.  Teacher of the year was awarded to Paul Kinley of the business department.
     Lanny Smith, Jim Denslinger and Joe Smith received recognition for participation in the White Salmon high school football program.
     Volleyball awards were: captain, Robin Huffman; most improved, Renae Frey; most inspirational, Renona Frey; and most valuable, Lori Dolieslager.
     Boys basketball awards included: most improved, Lanny Smith; most inspirational, Nick Dolieslager; most valuable, Dave VanLaar; team captain, Dave VanLaar; and defensive, Dave VanLaar.
     Girls basketball awards were: most improved, Leisa Donnelly; mower most valuable, Lori Dolieslager; inspirational, Robin Huffman; and defensive, Nicki Schmid.
     The associated student body officers for 1982-83 were also announced.  Joe Smith, president; Robert Allen, vice-president; Leisa Donnelly, secretary; and Lanny Smith, treasurer.
     Cheerleaders for 1982-83 will be Angela Stanford, Lorrie Williams, Lori Dolieslager Leisa Donnelly and Robin Huffman.
     The Trout Lake students presented Bugs Hill, school custodian, with a special award for his support of the student body.  This met with a standing round of applause from the audience.
