SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

     The end of the school year brought recognition to many Trout Lake students.  Academic and athletic scholarships were awarded as part of the 1983 commencement ceremonies.
     Leisa Donnelly was awarded the Elks Lodge vocational scholarship of $100 and the Bergstrom Scholarship of $200.  Donnelly was also the recipient of the William Blake Foundation Scholarship for $1,000.
     Lorrie Williams, daughter of Linda and Larry Williams, is planning to attend Walla Walla Community College next year and use the scholarships she has earned.  Her scholarships include the Washington State Principals Scholarship Award for academic achievement, the Soroptimist International Club of Mt. Adams scholarship for $300, the Josten Award for academic excellence and the honor society award.
     Steve Theisen, son of George and Veita Theisen of Vancouver, has college plans of his U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athletic Award.  He was also awarded an honor society pin.
     Joe Smith, son of Joe and Eula Smith, will be working at his father's gas station this summer and then going on to a vocational training school.  He was awarded the Russ Guppy Award of $200 for his achievements.
     Ronda Huffman, daughter of Dale and Judy Mitchell, has college plans and will use the Eastern Washington University School of Fine Arts award to her further her choir participation.
     Huffman and Theisen also each won the Trout Lake Education Association award of $100, which is awarded by the school teaching staff for academic achievement excellence.
     Jim Hallenbeck was given the art award for his creative skills.
     The Booster Club presented scholarships of $100 to Donnelly, Huffman, Smith, Theisen and Williams.
     Williams and Theisen also received medallions for their roles as a valedictorian and salutatorian respectively.

NEW MANAGEMENT OPENS TAVERN

            The Trout Lake School Awards Banquet was held Thursday.  Academic, athletic and personality awards were distributed.
            The home and family life award was given to Renae Frey. Math honors went to Robert Allen and the business award was presented to Nicki Schmid.  Cheerleading awards were presented to Lori Dolieslager, Leisa Donnelly, Robin Huffman, Angela Sandford, Lorrie Williams and Rhonda Huffman as the mascot.
            Library awards were given to Renae Frey, Brett Wright and Leisa Donnelly.  Art awards went to Jim Hallenbeck and Ernie Reynolds.
            The Booster Club spirit award was presented to Debbie Webberly and Steve Theisen.  Brett Wright was honored with both the football and baseball award.  The Trish Davis Memorial award, a spirit award, was presented to Robin Huffman.
            Holly Wright earned the Positive Mustang award.  Student of the month awards went to Nicki Schmid, Yvonne Kinley, Steve Theisen, Loretta Chubb, Mark Reynolds, Tammy Turner, Scott Longanecker and Robin Huffman.  Kindergarten teacher, Linda Peterson, presented Roger Huffsmith with a special award for his skills in helping with her class of youngsters.
            Volleyball awards included most valuable player, Lori Dolieslager; most improved, Amy BeLieu; inspirational, Lori Dolieslager; and captain, Robin Huffman.
            Girl basketball awards were most improved player, Susan Binger; most valuable, Nicki Schmid; captain, Ronda Huffman; and “Miss Defense,” Angela Sandford.
            Steve Theisen received the most valuable player and captain awards in boys basketball.  Scott Longanecker was chosen most improved and "Mr. Defense” was shared by Lanny Smith and Brett Wright.  Roger Huffsmith was chosen most inspirational.
            Ernie Reynolds was deemed most improved track participant for the boys team and Holly Wright for the girls.  Most points were shared by Steve Theisen, Jim Hallenbeck and Debbie Webberly.  Coaches were Nicki Schmid and Steve Theisen.
