Robin Huffman and Nicki Schmid, both juniors at Trout Lake School, will attend
Girls’ State in Ellensburg early in June. They are being sponsored by the
Goldendale and White Salmon Chapters of the American Legion Auxiliary. The
Trout Lake teachers also assisted with the funding to enable both girls to
attend.
At Girls’ State the students will learn about the
rights and responsibilities of citizens in this democracy through participation
in the government and political processes of a mock city.
The School Awards Ceremony was last Thursday night.
Students received academic, athletic and extra-curricular recognition, as well
as the coveted “Girls League Award.” A special treat during the evening was the
students’ recognition of Bugs and Rainy Hill for their contribution as school
custodians above and beyond the call of duty. School cook Julie Longanecker was
presented with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her excellent menus and
willing attitude. The students presented Connie Strike with a plaque announcing
their appreciation of her labors as school secretary. The Girls League
acknowledged Lynda Belt’s guidance as their adviser with a bouquet of flowers.
The evening was not only a time to applaud the students for their efforts around
the school but a special time to view their appreciation to the adults who work
with them on a daily basis.
Graduation for the Class of 1984 will be held Friday
evening. Representative Dean Sutherland will address the graduating class.
Congratulations to our youth who have completed this big step in the road of
life.
