Thirteen high school seniors and twelve 8th graders, participated in graduation ceremonies at the Trout Lake School gym this past Friday evening.  Eighth-grade graduates included Priscilla Allaway, Melissa Altig, Sierra Estevaz, Marie Rudzik, Cynthia Sanford, Curtis Tipton, Emily Webster, and Marissa Wilson.  Also graduating from the 8th grade, but not able to attend the ceremonies were Robert Parker and Michael Rudzik
Seniors receiving diplomas were Julie Barclay, Annie Marie Chubb, Lena Johnson, Kali Morgan, Jesse Pearson, Paula Pearson, Ofelia Perez, Christopher Dindlebeck-Rudzik, Christy Sarosky, John Sarosky, Stefani Stafford, Brent Walker, and Robin Wood.
Guest speaker for the evening was former Trout Lake school Superintendent Manuel Borge, who spoke on the importance of motivation.  Class valedictorian, Kali Morgan, spoke on the necessity for developing a whole-world perspective; lessons learned while spending her just-completed year as an exchange student in Germany.  Salutatorian Jesse Pearson's speech stressed the need for honesty and personal integrity in today's world.  Several other senior class members also had the opportunity to give presentations; a new and much appreciated feature this year.
The following scholarships were awarded: Quilters’ scholarship, Paula Pearson; Trout Lake Riders, Robin Wood; regional Disposal scholarships, Robin Wood and Christie Sarosky; and Grange scholarships, Jesse Pearson, Paula Pearson, and Robin Wood.  A new scholarship for women students, the Alva Woodruff scholarship, was awarded to Christie Sarosky.  In addition, Stefani Stafford received the Pastor’s Recommendation scholarship from Southwestern College, as well as a Pell Grant for her tuition there.
The Newswriters joined with the rest of our community in wishing the graduating seniors the best of luck and much happiness as they enter into adult life and pursue their goals and dreams.  We wish the 8th grade class a great high school experience as they move on not only to another school level, but a whole new school.  (The first class to have all four years in the new building).
The high school awards banquet was held last Wednesday, June 2.  Students and their teach parents, teachers, and coaches, and enjoyed a desert, and academic and sports awards were presented.  Congratulations to all the hard-working students who received awards in these areas.
These end of the year activities mark the end of an era for Trout Lake School as the last public events to be held in that building.  With last Friday's graduation ceremonies we say good-bye to the old school a final time, with only a brief echo of nostalgia in the air for graduates, former students, parents, and other community members, for whom the good old building holds years, and even generations, of memories.
But graduation is “Commencement” after all, and even as above events were taking place the new school was beginning to live, as the first moves of equipment and supplies were started.  This week, the last week of school for all but seniors, students mixed field trips, tours of the new school, and packing/moving activities into their end of year activities.  The last day of school is Thursday the 10th.
Next week, the week beginning June 14, the big move will happen.  To save the expense of professional movers, school personnel hope that much of it can be accomplished with the volunteer labor of employees and community members.  Anyone wishing to donate time, and/or equipment to the effort please call the school office (395-2571).  However they need to know by TODAY (Wednesday the 9th). If you don't receive the paper until Thursday, they may still appreciate your call.  Public tours of the building will be offered when the building is dedicated later in the summer.  There will be no tours in June and July in order to allow for the installation of equipment and furniture.
