TL SENIORS COLLECT BENEFITS OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
Members of Trout Lake High School’s class of 1988 received awards
and scholarships totaling $159,000, during last Friday's graduation ceremony.
The awards, scholarships and the recipients were:
Elva Pearson Woodruff Memorial Scholarship -- $300, Maria Padilla. Trout Lake Quilters -- $500, Flora Pearson. White Salmon Lions Club -- $500 each, Ryan BeLieu and Shandrea Anderson. Soroptimist Youth and Citizenship Award -- $500, Alisa Meyer.
White Salmon River Steelheaders -- $500, Flora Pearson. Wallace and Grace Davis Memorial, sponsored by Trout Lake Grange -- $600 each, Ryan BeLieu, Matthew Landstrom, Flora Pearson, and Megan White.
Washington State University, University Achievement Award and Scholar in Residence Award -- $5,000, Flora Pearson, and $3,000, Matthew Landstrom. Gonzaga University, Achievement Scholarship -- $4,000, David Smith.
Pacific Lutheran University, Achievement Award -- $58,000 (renewable annually for $14,500, for four years, Ryan BeLieu. University of California-Irvine, Achievement Award -- $80,000 (renewable annually for $20,000, for four years), Mark Gottschalk. Cascade College – (Presidential) $2,200, (Academic) $1,200, (Music) Shandrea Anderson.

KLICKITAT COUNTY’S 1998 GRADUATING SENIORS SET FOR CEREMONIAL FIRST STEPS TOWARD
FUTURE

More than 200 Klickitat County seniors will take their last steps as
high school students on their way to graduation this weekend and next.
Seniors at eight high schools -- Columbia High in White Salmon, and
Trout Lake, Glenwood, Klickitat, Lyle, Goldendale, Wishram, and Bickleton --
will receive diplomas during graduation ceremonies between June 5 and June 13.
The first graduating classes of 1998 will be in Trout Lake and
Goldendale.
Commencement exercises for those two schools are Friday night,
beginning at 7:30.
Columbia High, Glenwood, and Klickitat will hold their graduation
ceremonies Saturday afternoon.
CHS seniors will walk down the aisle toward graduation in a
commencement program that starts at 3 p.m..
The program for Glenwood and Klickitat seniors begin at 2 p.m..
Trout Lake has 14 seniors scheduled to graduate. Columbia High has
65 doing the graduation walk.
At Glenwood the number is 12, including two German exchange students
who will receive honorary diplomas. Klickitat’s class of ‘98 and has 11
members.
Next Friday, June 12, 20 Lyle High seniors will be the next-to-last
class to hold its commencement exercise. The ceremony there will commence at 7
p.m..
Bickleton and Wishram each have three seniors scheduled to graduate
on Sunday, June 7, and Saturday, June 13, respectively.
Goldendale could see as many as 88 earn diplomas.
Following are some of the highlights planned for graduation
ceremonies in the surrounding area.
Trout Lake:
Dr. Rudy Pearson, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker. Pearson is a professor of
history at American River College in Sacramento, Calif., and a 1974 Trout Lake
graduate.
The Friday evening program will be held in the Trout Lake school
gym.
It includes commencement addresses by the valedictorian Flora
Pearson and salutatorian Mark Gottschalk, as well as the announcement of
scholarship and award winners.
Glenwood: Valedictorian Waymeth Mills and salutatorian Misty
Hankins will address a gathering of family, friends, and community members in
the Glenwood school gym on Saturday.
Scholarship and award winners also will be recognized during the
afternoon program, as well will German exchange students Wibke Borns and Ute
Skornicka. The two girls will be presented honorary diplomas.
A reception for the graduates will follow in the school’s
multi-purpose room.
Klickitat: Scholarships and awards will be given out during
the Saturday afternoon ceremony in the Klickitat school gym.
Community resident, John Campbell will be the guest speaker for the
recall cage and.
Columbia High: CHS held an award and scholarships program on
Tuesday, June 2.
Saturday afternoons at graduation ceremony will be held in the
Gerald Miller Memorial gymnasium on the CHS campus.
Scheduled as part of the program are commencement addresses by Robyn
Carter, Shawna Henson, Carla Jellum, Jonathan Krenz, Landry Milnes, and Warns,
the top students academically in the 1998 class.
Lyle High: The class raised all the money that will pay for
it a pre-graduation trip to Las Vegas June 6-9.
Three days after their return, the Lyle seniors will fulfill their
12 years of schooling by being the first class to graduate in Lyle’s remodeled
gym.
The evening program will include remarks by valedictorian Aaron
Oldenburg and salutatorian Michelle Dirkse, and the announcement of scholarships
and award winners.
Guest speaker will be Verlyn Smith, a teacher at Lyle Middle School.
