The Enterprise, White Salmon, WA., August 20, 1912, page 7

TO THE VOTERS OF KLICKITAT COUNTY

I am a candidate for representative and if elected shall vigorously oppose a division of this county at the present time.
In population and wealth Klickitat county ranks with the small counties of the state, there being twenty four counties with a larger population at the present time. A large portion of our county yet remains undeveloped. The White Salmon Enterprises in an editorial printed in its issue of July 19th, 1912, with propriety said: "It Should Be Remembered There Are Whole Townships of Land on the Bench North of the River Between White Salmon and Lyle Which Still Awaits Settlement." The same is true of a large portion of the timbered section along the entire north side of the county. With these conditions existing the people of Klickitat county can ill afford to take upon themselves the increased burden of taxation necessary to support two county organizations.
If elected I shall try to obtain an equitable division among the counties of the two million dollars of unappropriated road money now in the state treasury.
I am in favor of increasing automobile licenses to ten dollars and applying the proceeds to the road fund of each county.

N.B. Brooks.
