UNDERWOOD STORE SOLD
George and Ted Balsiger announce the sale of their Underwood Mercantile store to
Al & Nadine Chisholm who have lived in this area for a number of years.
The Chisholms have been “getting acquainted” with the
store for a couple of weeks and will take over next Monday, June 22.
The Balsigers, father and son, have owned and operated
the store for 20 years. They will remain here for the rest of the month
attending to final business matters and collections.
Although George is leaving Underwood, he is optimistic
about its future. When the Skamania County PUD installed the water system,
there were only 25 users. Now there are 50 plus additional applications.
During the past month, 11 homesites and tracts were sold on Underwood Heights.
The Chisholms plan to move soon from White Salmon to
the apartment above the store. He is an electrician for SDS Lumber Co. They
have two children: Sandra, 14, and Dennis, 18. Dennis just graduated from
Columbia High School and will help in the store.
