born c1660 in Sussex, England and was an early settler of Chester County, PA in 1700.
This prominent Quaker family played an important role in the settlement of America
from Pennsylvania to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, making major contributions in
the fields of education, law, religion, politics, banking, diplomacy, manufacturing,
agriculture, and medicine. Wickershams were also active in the causes of antislavery
and civil rights, women's suffrage and women's rights, temperance and education.
The work begins with a fascinating historical essay by Dr. Yoder providing an early
history of the Wickershams in England and interesting Wickersham history in America.
This impressive family history records over 12,000 individuals beginning with Thomas in
1660 and continuing by generations down to the present. Information has been
gleaned from biographical sketches, obituaries, family bibles, birth baptismal, marriage
and death records, will and intestate proceedings, cemetery inscriptions, war service
records, and written and oral histories.
