Mathew was born in 1792 in either N or S Caroline as he is listed as being born in both in different records. He married Lucy Tait in Greene county , Georgia on 9-15-1824 and then moved to Henry County Alabama. Mathew and Lucy had 6 Children in order, Mary A b 1829 in Georgia, Robert G. b 1831 in Georgia , Jesse J. b 1832 in Georgia, Mathew M. Ford---Francis Ford was my greatgrandfather, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1847. He enlisted in the Civil War and was stationed on the USS North Carolina blockade ship. After the war he married my greatgrandmother, Mary King of Georgia. They moved to Baldwin County, Alabama a few years after the marriage and raised ~12 children. Francis was a farmer and justice of the peace. They moved to southern CA in 1899. Some of the Fords stayed in Baldwin County. Some are buried in the local cemetary. Francis spend a great deal of time in "Civil War Veteran Homes." He and Mary eventually moved in with a daughter living in Oakland, CA. They died in the late 1920s. STEPHENS---I have recently found my husband's family located in the Payne Cemetary list. We will be making a trip to Lowndes County the week of July 19th to explore his roots. I have some information about Doctor J.J. Stephens, born 11-17-1835 and died 3-30-1891. There is a Masonic emblem on his grave. Did he fight in the Civil War, what type of a medical doctor was he, what were his parents name. His wife, Rebeca A. Mastin is listed in the 1900 Census as living with J.J. Crenshaw. Rebecca is also buried @ the Payne Cemetary showing that she died 11-2-1911 and born on 7-24-1854. Her maiden name was Mastin. We have absolutely no information about her.
