Surnames beginning with I
Irvin and Tutt--Would like information on the William K Irvin family. According to enrollment record of William K. Irvin in Co. I, 5th U.S. Infantry, he entered service at Camp Douglas, Illinois. To my understanding this was a prison camp. William served from April 15, 1865 to Nov., 1866, mustering out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His service record says he was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Evidently he returned to Alabama after his service because his first child Mattie Lee Irvin(fem) was born there in 1868. His wife's name was Lidia Jane Tutt, she was born in Alabama, but I don't know where. I wasn't able to find William K. Irvin in the 1850 census of Ala. I did find a W. K. Irvin age 16 living in the household of Nancy Irvine (widow) in Perry Co., Ala. Can anyone help with this family? Thank you.
