CRENSHAW, GULLY, HOUSTON, DARVEL--I am searching for the parents of my gg-grandfather Pleasant CRENSHAW, born SC 1813 or 1815. His 1st wife Elizabeth was born in GA abt 1810. I suspect that he was living in Alabama with relatives in the late 1830's-early 1840's and may have married in Alabama. CUMMINS, CUMMING, CUMMINGS, CROMEANS, CROMERS, I think you get the idea -the name kept changing through the Census and land records. I am searching for the family of my father, Wesley K. CUMMINS. His father was RUBEN/REUBEN CUMMINS b. abt 1853 in Ala. (near Double Springs and Houston) m. Naomi/Omi/ Manomey CUMMINS. Older family members say that they were third cousins - probably closer than that. Ruben's parents were Pernesia YOUNG, b. Ala. about 1835 and Lindsay CUMMINS b. about 1830 in TN?. Lindsay/Linsey m. Caroline RUSH in about 1860. The family story is that Lindsay was murdered about 1874 in Ala either over a horse trade or stealing a neighbor's wife. I think that Lindsay's father was Jacob Cromeans b. abt 1799 in NC with wife, Rebecca ?. Siblings of Lindsay are: Sarah, Elizabeth, Caroline, Parker, Mary, Margaret, Vinea, Hancock, and Susan. Jacob had 3 siblings that I have found: Spencer, Absolem and Josiah. It appears that the name changed from Cromeans to Cummins about 1850-60. I would like to verify that Jacob, Spencer, Absolem and Josiah are brothers and came from SC/NC border area and that their father was Jacob Cromeans of the Newberry Dist. Also I would like to know the story of Lindsay death. I guess I just need any info any one can share on Lindsay. Contact Judy Frenchat jfrench@dnet.net

Another group of CUNNINGHAMS lived at Edgefield Co SC: Joseph CUNNINGHAM m Agnes who d. 1818 Edgefield. Children: 1. Sarah MONTGOMERY (children: Robert,Nancy), 2. John CUNNINGHAM d 1818 (ch:William CUNNINGHAM, and Catherine TINSLEY), 3. Joseph CUNNINGHAM, 4. Jane CUNNINGHAM married ? (ch: Nancy,Mary), 5. Jesse CUNNINGHAM, 6. Mary SHEPHERD. Finally I am interested in: Jane/Jean CUNNINGHAM who m. James CARSON d 1825 Al. children: 1. William CARSON, 2. James CARSON, 3. Betsey CARSON. Jane was related to James CUNNINGHAM. The Carsons probably were from Edgefield Co SC before moving to Jefferson Co Al. It is possible actually that all of these families are related. (?) I need help trying to get more insight on how ANY of these people connect to each other, what happened to them, who they were, etc. Has anyone come across these names, places before? "from History of Methodism in Alabama, chXII, p287..." The Jones's Valley Circuit first appeared fro the year 1823. Previous to that date it had been in and part of the Tuskaloosa <sic> Circuit...in the Twn 16,R2,West,on the head waters of CUNNINGHAM Creek, a branch of the Black Warrior, lived James CUNNINGHAM, an Irishman, and the man for whom the creek was named. In residence that Irishman the pioneer Methodist preacher commenced proclaiming the gospel as early as 1818, and there a Society was organized as early as 1819..a log church near the residence of CUNNINGHAM was built. At that church James CUNNINGHAM, Jesse PITTS, William CARSON, Goldsmith W. HEWITT, and others, held membership. That church was superceded in 1837, by a log house, a mile away, across the little valley, and named Smith's Chapel, at which an organization is still, 1890, kept up." Thanks for your help.
