On the 1850 Census for Monroe County shows his children all born in Alabama: (1) Arminta DANIEL b. 1826; (2) David DANIEL b. 1832; (3) Joseph DANIEL b. 1834; (4) Martha DANIEL b. 1837; (5) Catherine DANIEL b. 1841; (6) Mary J. DANIEL b. 1843; (7) Susanah DANIEL b. 1847. Since no wife is shown and youngest child is 3 years, it can be assumed that William DANIEL's wife died 1847-1850. I have information that William DANIEL lived in Pike County near Troy, Alabama before moving to Monroe County. It was suggested that the Index to Deeds at the Pike County Courthouse be searched for William DANIEL to see if there any records showing his wife and mother of his 7 children. DEAL, Jim, who resided in Brooksville, AL. Jim DEAL was married to Elizabeth SHELTON. They had 5 children, Del, Wayne, Alice, Jo, (George) Lee. Lee DEAL was my grandfather, born on June 10, 1885. Lee went to OK as a young man and apprently worked in the law enforcement field. Lee came back to Brooksville and married Birchie Bynum. Lee & Birchie lived in Brooksville and later, Blountsville, AL, until their deaths. Lee died in Dec., 1967. Birchie died approx. 1982. They had one child, Harry Julian DEAL, who is still living. I don't know what became of Wayne DEAL, or Del DEAL, but it is presumed that they moved to OK. Alice is said to have moved to TX. Jo married into the PETTIT family. I don't know Elizabeth SHELTON'S parents names, nor Jim DEAL's parents names or any of Elizabeth SHELTON'S siblings. Any information you can provide will be appreciated. I am particularly interested in any family anecdotal history concerning the Battle of Missionary Ridge in November 1863. My g-grandfather, O'BANNON Jacob SNIDER was captured during this battle on November 25, 1863, by Union Officer Major General THOMAS; he was transferred on Roll of Prisoners of War to Captain S. E. JONES, Provost Marshal at Louisville, Kentucky, on December 6, 1863. He was then transferred to Rock Island Barracks, Illinois, in December 1863; and then transferred to the Commissioner for Exchange May 23, 1865, from New Orleands, by order of Major General E. R. S. Apparently Margaret was his second wife. His first two children, Nancy and L.J. were from his first wife. Nancy SMITH MOORE said to be a descendent of the SMITHS of York, PA and a relative of the SMITH who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Rebecca Ann MOORE was bn. 16 Dec. 1818 prob in Ala. A William DOWDLE officiated at the marriage of one of the MOORE girls. William DOWDLE d. 10 Jul 1854 prob. in Texas. His wife Rebecca DOWDLE died at Commanche TX 12 Sep. 1906. It's possible that William DOWDLE was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister or perhaps a Justice of the Peace. I know of two children of William and Rebecca DOWDLE who survived to adulthood, Nancy Martha Ann DOWDLE bn. 14 Sep 1850 and Sarah Jane DOWDLE bn 19 Feb. 1839. DOWNS, James Samuel and Mary Helen (BROWN) DOWNS lived in Jackson Co Ala in the early part of 1900. She died in 1902 in Bridgeport. He was a millright and I assume he worked in the lumber business or for the railroad. DUNKIN/DUNCAN---Lemuel Pickins Dunkin, or Lempy Dunkin,probably born in Al.~1790 or 1800. Was in Edgefield S.C.in 1817 and 1819, where his two son,(1) Pickens, and (2) George Samuel DUNKIN were born. Pick in 1917, and Sam in 1819. This gentleman and his three minor children made the trek to Al. in 1828, to settle in Perry county Al. He left one minor son in North Al., Prob with relatives. Lempy died a short while after getting to Al., leaving two minor children as orphans. We do not know who raised them.
