JORDAN - I am interested in any Jordans that can trace their line back through Washington, Conecuh, Covington or Butler Counties in Alabama, and Jackson, Madison or Wilkinson Co., GA, particularly in the early 1800 time period. My great-great- great-grandfather was Peebles C. JORDAN, born 1795 in GA (Jackson Co. ?), moved to Alabama with parents as early as 1810. I believe his father is Radford JORDAN (b abt 1770), but I cannot prove this. Radford JORDAN participated in the GA 1805 land lottery in Jackson Co., GA. and had two tries so he was married and had children at the time. He ended up in District 27 of Wilkinson Co., GA, which is now in Wilkinson and Laurens Co., GA. P. C. JORDAN was drafted in Wilkinson Co., GA, 1812 but paid a William CALLAHAN to serve for him. Radford JORDAN shows up in the 1810 Mississippi Territory census for Washington County, and can later be traced to Montezuma (near Andalusia) for every census thereafter, except for the 1830?! In 1830, He can be found in the Henry Co. Census, and I have no idea why, as in 1840 he was back in Covington Co. From the book "Early History of Covington County, Alabama 1821-1871" by Wyley Ward, I know Radford was a jailer in 1834 in Montezuma. I believe Radford JORDAN's sons were Peebles C. JORDAN, William H. JORDAN (b abt 1805 in GA), Clarke Middleton JORDAN (b May 5, 1812 in Wilkinson Co., Georgia) and Abednego JORDAN. Other Jordans in Covington County, AL at the time include Henry D. JORDAN (b between 1770 and 1780) and James JORDAN (b abt 1790).Contact Jim Jordan, 6692 Charann Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45224, or jordanjm2@aol.com
