Jean Baptiste LEFLEAU m. Jeanne BOISSINOT 17 June 1735 in the Norte Dame Cathedral (later renamed Immaculate Conception) in Mobile. With England expanding their Colonies into the Carolinas, Louis XIV sent a company of soldiers from Canada, under d'Iberville, to Biloxi for the purpose of discouraging any futher British growth into the south and into the Louisiana Territory. The British had just started a new settlement called Charles Town in the Carolinias. d'Iberville was to attack Charles Town and create a resistence to the advancements of England into French territory. The French were to settle several colonies in the Louisiana Territory and to establish trading relations with the Indians in that region. Jacques and Pierre LeFleau were a part of this group. This was in 1699. The Spanish were also attempting to expand their holdings in Florida. The garrison of French moved from Biloxi to Mobile. There Jacques LEFLEAU helped the French to build Fort Louis and then later in Mobile he helped to build Fort Conde'. Here the LeFleau brothers were to stay and attempt to settle in this area in order to prevent the British from advancing into the French territiory from Charles Town in the Carolinias. Contact Joe L. According to family lore, he donated land in Splunge, MS (birthplace of his granddaughter and my g grandmother, Mary Eula LEWIS b. 5/16/1892 d. 11/16/1975) to a Methodist Church.  William's son, Noah (b. 1/30/1867, d. 9/8/1934 in Glen Allen, AL) married Susan Josephine LEE and then later, after Susan's death, married her sister, Dolly Francis LEE. Noah told his grandchildren that at one time he was a warden at a prison and ran a chain gang, carrying a shillelagh and a pistol. He is reputed to have helped build the first Mount Vernon Methodist Church which succeeding generations of LEWISES attended.  I would love any information regarding William Wayne's family---descendants & ancestors!  Angela     bearden1@gte.net
