SLOAN--Redmond SLOAN b. 1825 AL; married to Elizabeth Baker b. 1832 AL (Source: 1860 Census AR Crawford Co.) Children born in AL: (1)Mary P (1852), (2)Lucinda (1853), (3)Mark? (couldn't read, 1855), (4)Sarah E. (1857),(5) Tomas A (1860- born in AR). First 4 children were born in AL. From info in Census Redmond and Elizabeth and family must have moved to ARkansas in early 1860. My grandfather and my father were named Bluford Redmond Sloan Sr & Jr. respectively. I was told by a great aunt that they were named after the original Bluford Redmond Sloan (my grandfather's paternal grandfather) but I can find no reference that lists him as anything other than Redmond. Also I was told that he (Redmond) was born in Scotland but obviously that was not true. The census (unless it was wrong) listed him as being born in Alabama. So that is where my search begins. I have no idea which county. Susan Bollinger: Email 105432.2500@compuserve.com; Mailing address - 444 Fieldstone Drive, Burlington, NC 27215; phone 910-584-4010

SNIDER-SNYDER-Jacob Researching the Jacob SNIDER shown on the 1790 South Carolina Census for Orangeburgh District (North Part). Jacob is shown as having 3 sons under 16 years (1774-1790) and 4 females living in household, including head of household. Orangeburg was connected to the Ninety-Six District which included Edgefield County. I'm trying to link this Jacob SNIDER to the SNIDER family who came to Monroe County between 1818-1830 and who settled the community northward of Frisco City which was called SNIDER (the road leading to this community was also called SNIDER Road). I have family history beginning with O'BANNON Jacob SNIDER, but none for the Senior Jacob SNIDER of South Carolina. Any research done on this South Carolina SNIDER family who settled in Monroe County between 1818-1830 would be appreciated. Contact dharms@flash.net

SNIDER--O'Banjan Jacob b. 7/14/1840-Alabama I am trying to resolve the mystery as to who was the mother of O'Banyan (O'Bannon) Jacob SNIDER. There are two marriages shown for Jacob SNIDER in Alabama Marriages 1833-1880 Monroe/Conecuh County, Book A-Page 54: (1) Jacob SNIDER (who was born in 1815 in South Carolina) to Nancy STEWART m. 4/18/1839--security paid by F. FOSTER; Book A-page 96 (2) Jacob SNIDER to Mary KNOWLES (who was born in 1815 in South Carolina) m. 1/12/1845 officiated by Benjamin H. DENSON. To add to the confusion, I have a Marriage Contract from Monroe County Wills & Deeds, Book B-pages 496-498, executed between Jacob SNIDER and Mary KNOWLES in March of 1845--3 months after the marriage record date or may be it was the marriage license date. This Marriage Contract was witnessed by James WILEY and William SNIDER, Sr. on March 5, 1845. The last page #498 was missing from my copy. In this contract, Mary was not only gaining control of her female negro slave named Liley but all of her pre-marriage assets. Benjamin H. DENSON was to handle Mary KNOWLES' estate and deliver any monies she had to her heirs. Since the marriage between Jacob SNIDER and Mary KNOWLES took place 5 years after the birth of O'Banjan Jacob SNIDER, I feel certain O'Banjan Jacob SNIDER's mother was Nancy STEWART since she married Jacob SNIDER in April 1839 and O'Banjan Jacob SNIDER was born a year later in July 1840. I would appreciate having any information from the families of Nancy STEWART and Mary KNOWLES. Contact dharms@flash.net

STEELE /WALLACE--My records indicate that Peter Henry Steele moved to the Alabama territory in 1818 where he was appointed clerk of Court in Conecuh County. I can find no records in South Alabama or Western Florida to confirm. Peter Henry Steele removed from St James Parrish Santee, Charleston, SC with his wife Eliza (or Elizabeth) Danley to the territories. He was buried in the old John Ghent cemetary south of Lake Jackson, Florala, Aabama around 1837 and it seems likely that his wife was buried in the Scipio cemetary with their son Robert near the "Yellow River Bridge" on the west side of the river. Together they had 13 children. One son, Jason "Jay" Steele", born 1861 moved to Rawl Springs (Hattiesburg) in the 1890s and married Samantha Cutts. They had twelve children and were buried in nearby Providence Cemetary. I can find no records to confirm. I'm looking for them in order to locate my grandfather's family...Wallace. He was Charles Macon Wallace and his mother may have been Mary Elizabeth Bowden of Columbus, Georgia. Charles Macon Wallace married Lillian Leattie Steele, daughter of Jay Steele and Samantha Cutts. Can you point me in the right direction??? Sharon Romine Ayers sayers@gte.net

My great-grandfather Issac P. Stowe was born in Tallapoosa county around 1840-1850 and his father was born there around 1800. From what I understand from listening to my elders as a kid is that the STOWE got their land from the Queen of England. I can remember one of my ancestors calling the Queen periodically (of course not the same Queen). My great-great grandfather is buried in the STOWE cemetary which is not listed on line with the others. This cemetary is located up of the Tallapoosa river from what is called River Hill.
