DUPREE, WOOD, HAYNES, BAKER, OLIVER, WYATT, ASKINS, EASTERLING--I’m looking for information about my great great grandfather James Lewis DUPREE. I believe his father was Curtis DUPREE, his mother was Sarah WOOD DUPREE. Sarah was the daughter of Thomas WOOD and Annie SMITH WOOD. Annie was the daughter of Colby and Anna HENRY SMITH. I believe Curtis’ father was James DUPREE, who died in Washington Co., GA around 1836. James came to GA from Northampton Co., NC around 1816. James Lewis DUPREE was born in Washington or Clarke Co., Georgia between 1827 and 1829. He married Augusta A. HAYNES, daughter of Green B. HAYNES of Walton Co., Georgia on February 5, 1852. In 1859, James Lewis and Augusta DUPREE purchased land in the Chestnut Creek area of Autauga Co., Alabama (now in Chilton Co., Alabama). James Lewis and Augusta DUPREE had children named Martha DUPREE (who married George Washington ASKINS in Baker Co., Alabama on February 29, 1876); John T. Dupree (who married Dorindia WYATT in Baker Co., Alabama on November 18, 1875), James Lewis Dupree (who married Samantha EASTERLING in Baker Co., Alabama on March 23, 1876), William Henry Dupree – my great grandfather - (who married Charlotte BAKER in Chilton Co., Alabama on March 26, 1881, and then married Mattie Lou OLIVER in Chilton Co., Alabama on September 12, 1894), Mary Dupree, and Parlee Dupree. My great great grandfather joined Company C of the 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment, CSA on August 19, 1861. On October 23, 1861, while encamped at Auburn, Alabama, the following men from Company C were transferred to Captain Joseph Hodgsen, Company C of Colonel James H. Clanton’s 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment by special order from Brig. Gen. C. P. Walker: John Asheart, Sgt., E. Askins, Pvt., J. L. Dupree, Pvt., H. H. Dupree, Pvt., Thomas W. Driver, Pvt., John M. Driver, Pvt., J. M. Eilands, Pvt., J. Popwell, Pvt., B. F. Scarborough, Pvt., R. H. Nelson, Pvt., D. E. Jones, Pvt. Augusta Dupree filed a widow’s claim on February 20, 1863. I’m trying to find: When, where, and how James Lewis Dupree died and where he was buried? Who was James Lewis Dupree’s father? When, where, and how Augusta Dupree died and where she was buried? Are there any descendents of Mary or Parlee Dupree still living? Family stories say she is sister of John Ross DURAN and Talitha Cumi DURAN. Durans and Armstrongs moved to Rusk Co. Texas about 1852. Mother of John Ross is shown on 1880 census of Rusk Co. DYKES, WILKERSON--DYKES, Nathaniel b. abt 1790, place unknown. He married Temperance ____, date unknown, and he died sometime after 1860. He was listed in 1818 and 1820 in Pulaski Co. GA. In 1830 he recorded a deed in Pike Co. AL. In 1859 and 1860 he recorded deeds in Monroe Co. AL. He had at least three children born in South Carolina: Shadrick (b.1804), Hiram (b.18__), and Elizabeth "Betsy" (b. abt 1814). His other children were born between 1815 and 1830.
