McRAE and FOLMAR--I am searching for ancestors of John McRAE. He is listed in the 1860 Lowndes Co., AL. census--49, farmer, from NC. Also in household is Mary ("Polly" FOLMAR McRAE) 39-AL, Joseph 17-AL, J.W. 12-AL, George 8-AL, Rebecca 3-AL(this is my gr grandmother, probably died of genetic disease Huntingtons Chorea--two of her sons had it), Patrick 1-AL, (and Abraham was born in 1860 after census taken). Several of this family ended up in Wood Co., TX. I have nothing on the McRAEs before this time. Evidently from this census he is from NC and came to AL sometime between 1810 and the census date of 1860. His oldest child, Mary Ann was born abt. 1840, was m. and had a child in the 1860 census and was in her own household with her husband James O'TOOL. We know from his childrens' ages, all born in AL., that the family was somewhere in AL in the 1840's. John McRAE died before the next census--may also have died of the same genetic disease as his dau. Any help would be greatly appreciated. MOSS --My great grandfather was born in AL, and I have been seeking to prove his parents for several years. All I have to go on, is that a John, age 8, was in the household of John and Nancy MOSS in 1850, listed as a son. In 1860, he was listed as John D., age 18. Other siblings in this family are: Marion D. b c1838, Lydia M. b c1844, James M. b c1845, Sarah E. b c1856, Margaret b c1849, Samuel b c1852, Ophelia b c 1854, and Felix D. b c1857. There is a Felix D. buried at Sandlin cemetery at Cairo, Limestone Co. He married Lodemia LANTROOP. This MOSS family lived in Limestone Co., and lived there in later years, this makes me feel at least some of the MOSS families there to this day, must be connected. Also there is a John D. listed as having served from Limestone in the 9th cavalry. My G-grandfather said he served in the Civil war, and never went back home. There was another John D., who was older than mine, who may have married my John's sister, Sarah MOSS. They are seen to be living very near John and Nancy MOSS in censuses after the war. I went to the archives about 10 years ago, and collected data on marriages, census and such, but didn't get a will of John or Nancy, or probate records. gflesher@pop.usit.net
