NEWMAN and WINTER--On 28 June 1887, Clara Denning NEWMAN of Huntsville, AL, (b. ca. 1868) married a minstrel named Banks WINTER of GA, (b. ca. 1860). They got their marriage license in Eufaula, AL. When their third child, William Banks WINTER, was born in 1901, they were in New York and Banks' occupation was listed as "Actor". Does anyone know this family? Who were Clara's parents? Info gathered so far indicates Clara was born and raised in Huntsville, but I have not found them on the census. Any and all help greatly appreciated. NICHOLS, BLAKE--NICHOLS--Jackson NICHOLS b. __? in NC (per 1900 AL census) m. Leah F. BLAKE b. 23 Oct 1832 in TN. d. 30 Jul 1914. Both buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Sand Mountain, DeKalb County, AL. Cemetery list does not contain Jackson's date of death but inscription reads "Corp'l, 2 GA Mtd. Vols, Indian War 1887." Records from National Archives indicate he entered Army from Georgia on 5 Oct 1837 and was discharged 11 May 1838. 1887 possibly date of death. Jackson moved to Alabama between 1862-1868. Children include (1)my GGrandfather William Blake NICHOLS b. 22 Mar 1868 in AL, d. 9 Jul 1897, m. 30 Dec 1886 to Elizabeth Ann Davidson (2) Idella D. b. 12 Sep 1874 in AL and possibly (3) Linnie b. abt. 1862 in GA and Mattie b. abt 1872 in AL (last two from 1880 DeKalb Co. census.
