SMITH, Leander was my grandfather, who lived most of his life in Limestone County Alabama. He was born around 1869. He had children named Hubert, Althea, Roy, Floyd, Coy, Robert and Shelby Lee. At a family reunion couple a years ago, it was a sad affair to realize that the family tree stopped with Leander, my grandfather. He was a stone and brick mason who constructed churchs and schools throughout AL, TN and KY. My father, Shelby, deceased 1980, told me he thought his grandfather or (s) were circuit riding Methodist ministers. Am just beginning search and would greatly appreciate any and all help. Thanks For more information, contact G. Douglas Smith at dugsmith@pinehurst.net or at 40 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst,NC 28370-1418.

SMITH--I am looking for the family of Samuel SMITH, he was born ca 1810 in SC. He married Sarah about 1833, she was born ca 1817 in GA and died between 1860 & 1870 in MS. Samuel and Sarah had 12 children: Matilda, Martha, Milton, Malinda, William S., Barbery E., John W., Henry C. or S., Laura (Tamar), Manerva, Leslie, and Huldy. Birthdates are from 1833-1860, all children born in MS. Samuel's path was SC to GA to Newton Co., MS in 1850, Neshoba Co., MS in 1860, Covington Co., MS in 1870 and Washington Co., AL in 1880. His daughter Leslie SMITH married Thomas SMITH, probably the son of William and Malissa SMITH. William was the son of William and Mary "Polly" DUNBAR SMITH. William was born in 1833 in AL and Malissa was born in 1838 in AL. They had 11 children with birthdates ranging from 1858 to 1877 all in Washington Co., AL. Rebecca, Mollie A., Thomas, William F., Silas, John W., Joseph B., Frances, James A., Mary, and Jack. If anyone else is researching this family, I would love to hear from you and exchange information. Thanks and Happy Hunting to ALL! For more information, contact Felicia Watson at growintree@zebra.net or at PO Box 1413, Semmes AL 36575-1413.

SMITH--I am working on very little information. My grandmother Minnie SMITH was married in St Francis Co Arkansas April 3 1881. Her wedding certificate shows that she was born May 1863 in Alabama. The 1900 census shows that her father was born in Alabama and her mother in Ga. That is all the firm data that I have to go on, the rest is family story that I have not been able to verify. According to my father, his mother Minnie was brought up on a river boat that her father owned and operated on the St Francis River in Akansas (this is probably why I can find no census records either in 1870 or 1880, they were probably never counted due to their gypsy lifestyle)Capt SMITH was supposedly a full blood Cherokee from Alabama. His wife was white from Ga. At the time of the civil war their river boat was sunk by the yankees so Capt took his wife back to family home in Alabama while he joined Confederate Army. Minnie was born in her grandparents home. I have no idea where that was and the worse part is that I have no record of given names of her parents. She died in Dallas TX 6 months before Texas started keeping death records. What I'm hoping for is some indication of a Cherokee family named SMITH that was in Alabama at least from about 1830-1870 and find out which county to look for birth records of Minnie or for someone that may know something of my riverboat capt. For more information, contact Barbara Jarvis at BarbaraJarvis@bigfoot.com or at 14940 Vesper Rd, Valley Center, CA 92082.
